Hi, as I know, the Archer A2300 does not support Time machine.

While Archer C2300, Archer C8 V4 and Archer C9 V4 support this feature.

May it help and have a nice day.

Most routers including mine do not support Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format the most common format used by Time Machine. About once a week I plug in my Time Machine drive direct to my iMac and also before/after installing software or updates. I have a FAT32 drive connected to the my C8 router where I can share with other PCs and save additional copies of things from my iMac. It would be nice to have the Time Machine drive on the router. If you plan to get a router that supports Time Machine formats and you plan to use the drive for other things (multiple partitions), more than one hitting the drive at the same time would be very slow. Going through the router is slower than a usb connected to the Mac.

Correction, I have the C2300 and it does support Time Machine but there is almost no documentation on it.

Have you tried that?  Hooking up a drive with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format to the C2300 router and running a Time Machine backup? Seems odd that the C2300 would be able to read a Mac only drive.

I have an Archer C8 that does not support a MAC formatted drive so no, I have not connected a MAC formatted drive to a router. I have four MAC formatted WD USB drives that I use for Time Machine (two for each MAC), which I connect direct to the MACs about once a week. I did try getting Time Machine to use a FAT32 drive but it was a no go. Now, even if I could run Time Machine on the router, I do not think I would it as I would be tempted to leave it there and forget it, then all it would take is a direct lighting strike and I could lose the PC and its backup at the same time.  I have used Time Machine to recover my iMac when I changed the hard drive to an SSD. Quick and easy and did not lose anything. My Windows PC was a different story when that drive went bad.

@user007

For the Archer C2300, it supports the following File System Format, including fat32、ntfs、exfat、hfs+.

It is suggested to use NTFS.

May it help and have a good day.
