Incorrect DEFAULT IP for TL-WA730RE?

Region : UnitedKingdom

Model : TL-WA830RE

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : unknown

ISP : Sky

Greetings everyone.

Hopefully someone will be able to help in this rather odd fiasco.

I recently purchased the mentioned model of range extender in order to facilitate better coverage in a customers home. Now, currently connecting is all well and good as my customer uses an N-band Sky broadband router which has a WPS button on top of it.

However, out of curiosity due to the fact said customer will be changing provider in the near future, I am hoping someone would be able to help with this. Having tried setting up a connection previously using the Easy Setup utility disk and failing, I thought nothing of it at the time and that it could be down to some form of bad setup on the laptop we were using. However, having switched to a different laptop to try using the setup utility, the same issue occurs.

I am only able to get upto the network test portion of the utility, as every single time it claims that the IP is incorrect. This baffles me as the extender itself was purchase brand new via UK distributor Ebuyer, so it has not been used previously, nor is it a refurb of any kind. The default IP on the bottom of the hardware, as well as the one provided in the utility and the manuel all read "192.168.1.254" - yet when this is inputted, all I receive is an "incorrect IP" message. I have tried the previous default IP of 192.168.0.254 and this also does not bare any fruition.
Is anyone familiar with this problem and able to provide guidance?

As expected I have tried resetting the box and this also has not changed any settings. it seems the default...isn't the default!

As mentioned, the box is certainly fine for now, but in the future due to alot of routers provided by ISP's not having a WPS button, it is not going to be a solution for the future.

Many thanks

Just had the same Problem.
Solution:
Use 192.168.0.254
Not 192.168.1.254

192.168.0.254 does not work

Having failed to get a connection by using the "setup by button" method I tried the "by Utility" method and found that the IP address 192.168.0.254 was not accepted.

Greetings once more. It has been a few weeks since I brought this paticular topic up, but I have to say that I am still having issues with the mentioned (Unable to login to the WA730RE using either the Default IP or 192.168.0.254)

Having tried connecting to the WPS earlier today, I feel that it is now completley bypassing my router and connecting to another router that has WPS auto enabled constantly (as it would explain why their router provides more of a signal than this one currently). Just checking the router in this household, am I right to assume that the access point should be displaying in the "attached devices" field? Because if so...This is another example of the device not connecting, as the only thing being displayed is 3 of our devices.

I remembered the IP address of the TL-WA730RE is 192.168.1.254, while TL-WA830RE is 192.168.0.254, so when running the CD, you need to type the correct IP address according to different model numbers. If it always tells you the IP address is not correct, give a try to reset the device, close the Easy setup Assistance, and run it again.
By the way, you can try to set up the range extender by using the web interface, that's more reliable. here is the instruction: http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=357
Hope that will help:)

Make sure computer is on same network as AP
2013-03-11 13:15:32
If your AP is 192.168. 0.254,
Set your the computer accessing AP to 192.168. 0.199 - for example.

If your AP is 192.168. 1.254,
Set your the computer accessing AP to 192.168. 1.199 - for example.
