Model: Archer C20
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 4.16 v0001.0 Build 181127 Rel.56357n(4555)

Firmware version:0.9.1 4.16 v0001.0 Build 181127 Rel.56357n(4555)

Hardware version:Archer C20 v5 00000005

Since I got the router , I've been having issues where it loses internet connectivity. I then have to reboot the router OR remove the cable from the WAN port and plug it back in again to regain internet access.

This is a router fault as I tested the above with a different brand router and I had internet connectivity for days, no disconnects.

The disconnects usually happen after a few hours.

All my devices on the network loses connectivity, whether it's via 2.4/5ghz WiFi or even ethernet cable.

No firmware updates for this model yet as it's definitely a software issue!

Any beta firmware perhaps for this router that fixes known issues like the above? Any help is appreciated!

@SLANGza

Hello, we can do some troubleshooting first to verify whether we can figure it out, otherwise you can contact the retailer or the local tech support to get a replacement if qualified.

1. What is the led status of the Archer C20 when it stops working? Try to login to the web UI and show us a screenshot of the status page at that time.

2. When C20 stops working, please connect your computer to the modem directly, bypass the C20 and check whether you can get internet; if it works, please connect the PC back to the Archer C20 by wired cable and log into the web UI to clone the MAC address.

3. When did you buy this router? And where?

Thanks a lot, good day.

@Kevin_Z

Thanks for the quick response!

1. The LED remains green and sometimes it's off, as per screenshot attached https://i.ibb.co/fnjkR61/Status.png

2. I have done so, internet came back on as expected when the the WAN cable is plugged out and back in.

The router was delivered from my ISP when the 100mB fibre installation was done, it was free of charge. -- I am thinking about returning it to the ISP for a replacement.

Some new information gathered over the last week.

I have DDOS protection enabled on the router, and somehow my PC is being blocked by the router ( I assume there might be a botnet or something strange on my PC)

I disabled the DDOS and my connnection have not dropped since.

Is the nature of the DDOS protection to disable WAN when multiple DDOS is encountered?

I will be formatting my PC this week, and provide feedback again in a few days

UPDATE:

PC was switched off, WAN still disconnects itself after a certain amount of hours. No connectivity to any connected device LAN/WIFI.

My DDOS assumption is now invalid.

Hi

@Kevin_Z

Is this issue being investigated by the firmware team? I have noticed similar reported issues on the forum with this specific router.

I fixed the issue by flashing with a 3rd party firmware, OpenWRT.

I'm expriencing similar behaviour. I recently got a new Mac, and am connecting it over ethernet (everything else is on WiFi, and always has been). I have noticed, if that Mac sleeps, or I unplug it from ethernet, the internet connection will be dropped eventually.

Not sure if it is relevant. But I wonder if the keepalive settings are somehow only applying to ethernet?

That said, I tried changing connection mode to "Always On" and had the same behaviour. So I'll likely end up flashing with WRT too.
