Setting up WDR-3600 router (ethernet connection) as a wireless repeater / range extender

I have a TP-Link WDR 3600 router that I want to use as a wireless repeater / range extender for a dead spot in my house.
I found instructions for connecting this wirelessly to my existing wireless network (Netgear), but the problem is I don’t get a signal in the room I would like to place this extender in.
I do however have a wired network point in this room.
1) Can I plug a Cat5 cable directly into the router (plugged into blue internet or yellow Ethernet?) and set up as a wireless repeater that way? How do I do this and what IP settings do I need given this is secondary to my main cable modem and wireless Netgear router?

Hello, you can configure the TL-WDR3600 as an access point and connect it to the main router by wired cable to boost wifi signal.

I followed these instructions.
1 question regarding 'Step 2' when updating the IP of the TP-Link router.
I set this to 192.168.2.11 and now I cannot log in to the settings.
Is this normal? I expected that I could log onto the primary Netgear router at 192.168.1.1 and this access point at 192.168.2.11
Is it normal to lose login functionality when set as an access point? Or have I done something incorrectly?

It is suggested to assign a static IP for the WDR3600 which is in the same subnet as the main router so that we can access the web UI easily. For now, the IP of WDR3600 is 192.168.2.1, while the IP of your device is 192.168.1.x, different subnets so that you can not access the web UI. You can assign a static IP for your computer and log into the web UI first. Then you can change the LAN IP of WDR3600 to another one, like 192.168.1.100. Then with your device connected, you can use this IP address to access the web UI of WDR3600.

I am sturggling with this - just need a bit of clarity so I know I am doing this correctly. Are there any step-by-step instructions for this

When I assign the static IP for my Win 10 computer, are you referring to this below, and what happens if I have a 2 computers - must I do it for ewach one?
- Click Start Menu > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center or Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
- Click Change adapter settings.
- Right-click on Wi-Fi or Local Area Connection.
- Click Properties.
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
- Click Properties.
- Select Use the following IP address.
- Enter the IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway, and DNS server.
- Click OK.
