Not able to connect AC1200 to 5G network

I have jus purchased a AC1200 wi fi range extender but the speed is very slow. My router gives a wireless output of 250 mb/sec but I only get max 20 mb/sec out of my range extender. It seems it does not connect to the 5G network of my router but only to the 2,4G. The blue light for 2,4 on the extender is on but not for the 5G. What to do?

@Chrisisa

Hi, what is the model number of the AC1200? You can find it on the back of the actual device, it starts with RE.

Have you ever connected it to the main router's 5GHz? Like scanning for it and select your one and enter the wifi password?

Even though the 5GHz led does not come on, you still can see the 5GHz wifi name. What is the speed you can get from the 5GHz wifi of RE?

And how far away between each other? Try to move it closer to the main router to give it a go.

Besides, what is the model number of the main router as well?

Thanks a lot.

@Kevin_Z

Thank you for your reply on my issue.

I have the RE305 and I have tried to connect to the 5g of my router and this seems to work but then in status I see the connection of 5G not activated? The speed I get form the RE is max 30 mb/s. I tried to move it closer but no success....

My router is a Ziggo Connectbox.

@Kevin_Z

My device RE305 does not find the 5G signal from my router, the host modem that I have is working well because I have some devices using the 2.4G signal and other using the 5H signal.

Hardware version is 3.0, firmware 1.1.2 Build 20200212 Release 67183.

My host modem-router is Arcadyan model PRV33AC.

I can't change the channel for the 5G in the Arcadyan model, the only option I have is Auto, it's using channel 136 and I can't change either the channel of the 5G RE305 device as it is using channel 36.

I try using web, app and wps configuration mode several times also resetting to factory mode a couple of times.

I'm frustrated with the device and this purchase.

Thank you.

@JoseRivera 5G channel 136 is one of band3, and it's DFS channel, and RE305 does not support that one.

I’m afraid that you need to contact the router support to change the 5G channle to band1: 36,40, 44, or 48.
