Hi,

 

I have 3 P9 and a M3W and a 600mb symmetric line.

When I connect my MacBook to the Deco wifi I get a poor 4mb upload connection.

 

Here a test connecting to a secondary Deco device:

Except the upload speed, your ping latency is also pretty big. For wired connection, it should have only around 2-5ms, 20ms is too big.

 

I suggest you can have a call with your ISP to have a check the link. Or you can connect your laptop direct to the cable and have a test on you laptop to compare the result.

Ping is high, but there's a huge difference in the upload speed.

 

 

Nothing I can do to improve the Deco wifi?

Hi, we can do further analysis to locate this issue and try to fix it. 

 

1. What is the current network diagram?

 

2. Please connect the main Deco to the modem only with other slave Deco units unplugged and then connect your computer to the main Deco by wired cable and wireless to test the speed respectively. And please show us the test results. 

 

3. With your computer or cellphone connected to the slave Deco only, please run the speed test for 3 times and show us the test results; Furthermore, please connect your computer to the slave Deco by ethernet cable to verify the wired speed.

 

4. You can open the deco app; click the settings button and then choose advanced>>IPv4>>Internet connection type and uncheck obtain DNS automatically and change the primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and click save.

After that, please run the speed test again and check whether it works.

 

5. You can swap the location of the Deco units or switch the slave Deco as the main unit to give it a shot.

I need to remind you please read carefully of the questions. 

 

@amadeus said he using M3W as the satellite, it doesn't have Ethernet port. And personally, among all of your suggestion, I think only point 1 is worthy of trying.

 

If we connect to the Deco M9 directly to the front modem and the speedtest result via the cable behind of M9 is good, then we can locate the issue to the Deco M9's WiFi; if the speedtest result via the cable behind of M9 is not good, this may be something wrong between M9 and the Modem.

even I think this answer looks a bit like a typical hotline's ready-to-go text template ;)

 

I would be willing to give it a try later today, if necessary.

 

But meanwhile I did something more drastic.

I have completely reset the actual Deco network and restarted the install routine, with only one P9 directly connected to the router.

 

I was also careful enough not to use the same one I had previously as main device.

 

Results:

 

Computer to main P9 through Ethernet

Then I have installed the second P9, about 7 meters from the main one, in another room and tested this wifi connection.

The degradation of the WiFi signal is incredible.

 

Moving the devices didn't help.

 

Any idea?

7m is not far in open area, but there are many obstacles in a house, it can affect the wifi transmission distance.

 

I suggest you to put the satellite dot nearer to the main M9 (clear sight point) and to see if the performane will improves.

 

PS: there is a mistake that many users may take. Assume the point A is the site you put your main router, and the point B is the area that you have extrem bad WiFi. If you want to have a better wifi on Point B, you had better to put the amplifier to point between A and B, but not the point B. Even that the amplifier generally have better tramsmission power & antenna gain than mobile phone/laptop, if you put the amplifier to the point B, you still cannot improve your WiFi performance greatly because the wireles link between the main WiFi and amplifier can still be weak.

As I wrote in my previous message, changing the position doesn't improve the wifi performance.

 

So moving the P9-B near to the P9-A (connected to the modem) doesn't change anything.
