Model: Archer AX6000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.7 Build 20200212 rel.7095(5553)

Hi,

I recently got the TP-Link Archer Ax6000 and I'm currently running into a lot of issues with this router.

Please note: The router came with firmware version "1.0.7 Build 20200212 rel.7095(5553)".

I ran all my test against both the abve mentioned latest as well old firmware which was "1.0.6 Build 20190822 rel.26396(5553)"

Country: India

Firmware Build Region: EU (The Indian firmware variant uses EU in filename).

I have a fiber PPPoE Connection and my Internet speed is: 50 Mbps Down and 50 Mbps Up. Normally on a daily basis, I always get both D/U above 40+ mbps.

Problems:

Problem 1: After configuring the router, the status shows connected but I'm not able to surf.
Observation:5Ghz is working extremely slow and 2.4Ghz is not at all opening any webpages.

With 5Ghz being so slow, I read the forum and performed the following changes in setting.

  1. HomeCare features set to off,
  2. QoS not configured. No option to turn it off completely. It is set to Standard setting.
  3. Parental control off.
  4. TP-Link Cloud Off.

The Internet is still way too slow. So as per few forum threads, In QoS setting,  I set Download as: 100 mbps and Upload as: 500mbps (both of which are higher than my internet connection so QoS should not be restricting any speed). Rebooted the router. Still extremely slow both 5g and 2.4g. I somehow managed to open speedtest.net on 5Ghz.

Problem 2: Even though download speed has drastically reduced (i.e. 1/3 of my actual speed), Upload speed is always around 0 mbps. It barely touches 0.3 mbps on a 50 mbps connection.

Problem 3: Lastly, Sometimes the 5GHz network keeps disappearing.

I have another D-Link DIR-816 which costs less than 2k and works flawlessly. I'm getting full speed with this router so I can confirm that the problem is not with internet connection but the TP-Link router itself.

I also emailed TP-Link support guys and tried to call the them but due to lockdown restrictions, I'm unable to reach any support agent. Also, yet to receive a response to my email.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Prasenjit

@Prasenjit

Hi, apologies for all trouble or issues you've encountered with this AX6000 router.

May I know who is your ISP?

How about the internet LED on the AX6000 when the internet is actually not working?

We have recently released a beta firmware, please give it a go and check if the current issue will disappear:

Do reply to let the community know, thanks.

@Kevin_Z

Thank you for the reply.

I tested the beta firmware and below are the observations and requested details.

As soon as the router is configured with Interned connection, the LED turns blue and irrespective of the speed I get and whether I'm able to open any websites or not, the LED remains blue.

My ISP is "Smartclick Internet Pvt Ltd.".

Test details:

Even wth the new firmware, the download speed continues to remain low and upload speed is still 0mbps. I'm not certain but since the upload speed never goes beyond 0mbps, I'm think there could be an issue with the device hardware itself, but I have no way to confirm this. May be you can help here?

I ran couple of speedtests from both within the router as well as from speedtest.net. Attached are the screenshots from the test.

Do let me know if you would like any logs and if so how I can collect those and share with you.

Even though I really like the product and its feature, considering the product return window for me is quite close, I'm planning to submiting a return request on Monday 27th July if the issue doesn't get resolved. So I would really appreciate any assistance from your end to troubleshoot the issues before the return date. Hope you understand.

Regards,

Prasenjit

@Kevin_Z

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for the update and for reaching out to me. Unfortunately, I had to return the product so I won't be able to test this new firmware.

In case other folks on the forum run into similar issue, may be they can test the firmware and share their feedback.

Again thank you for all the help.

Have a good day.

Regards,

Prasenjit

@Dmonde

Hello, apologies again it takes long to release the new official firmware for the AX6000.

Our developers are working on it and it will be available soon, please give us more patience like you always did and keep an eye on the TP-Link official website. Good days.

@Kevin_Z

I know it is too much to ask, but can you please ask the developers to move to a fresh code base and create brand new firmware for the AX6000 instead of using a 5 year old code and porting it to such brand new hardware. The ax6000 and ax11000 are flagship products and deserve to be treated better than this. The TP link home router firmware is very bad and unstable compared to the ASUS / netgear routers.

I am sure TP Link can sell millions more routers if the firmware support improves. Right now, many people are willing to pay a premium for ASUS even if the tplink hardware is better in comparable categories.

If the devs don't want to do too much work, maybe they can use the openwrt code base to start off ?
