Archer C6 2.4GHz latency, packet loss problems
Hello everyone!
This is my first time testing network equipment. My home network layout is as shown below:
Did not check what firmware the Archers came with. Updated all to 1.3.4 due to the 2.4Ghz channel being stuck on 5. On 1.3.4, when all 3 2.4Ghz networks were online (with guest networks also online), I could induce packet losses and latency spikes for all devices connected to the network by loading the network using 1 device – just browsing through a news feed or social media from my phone really fast. The devices use the same SSID and password. From the monitoring device, it looked like this:
Wifi signals at the monitoring device looked like:
Disabling one of the networks resulted in a reduction of packet losses and latency spikes, but they were still present (here r0 and f0 are active, f1 disabled):
Just running 1 network, packet losses and latency problems were reduced further, but didn’t go away (only r0 active):
So I upgraded firmware for all three to 1.3.5. Stability improved dramatically and packet losses and latency spikes have gone down with the three networks active. However, if I go to the edge of the network and load it, there are spikes in packet losses and latency:
This is not normal behaviour right? How do I fix this? The devices are all brand new and still under warranty.

Hi, on EU version we have the same problem with packet loss and latency - can you update the EU firmware also? Another thing - 5GHz network is disconnecting from time to time - doesn't matter if it's the iPhone or PC. Please fix that also. I'm running the latest firmware (1.3.6 Build 20200902 rel.65591(4555)) available for this router (Archer C6 v2.0)

You may update to the beta firmware we posted here first, then monitor if it helps resolve the issue:

I first downgraded to 1.3.6 20200907 rel.60850(4555) since this was working well for me apart from synthetic packet loss issues, which however did not affect normal functioning of the device. However I noted a new issue with this. In my topology, when I move from f0 to r0 on 5 GHz wifi, feeds fail to load. Suspecting some kind of handoff problem, I disconnected the wifi on my client device and reconnected. However, images and videos still failed to load. Again, this is present only on the 5GHz network and not on the 2.4 GHz network. I have tested with multiple client devices and all have this problem. It only resolves after a couple of minutes being connected to the 5 GHz of r0.
Then I downgraded to 1.2.1 via a method from your engineers. This 5 GHz roaming problem still persists. I have yet to check packet loss problems.
This roaming problem also exists with 1.3.6 Build 20201030 rel.60104(4555).

Upgraded to 1.3.6 Build 20201208 rel.52296(4555). 5 GHz loading problems have gone away.
