TP-Link Archer C6 + TP-R600VPN - Parental Controls
So I have had an Archer C6 for a while now and it works great, the parental controls have been a great feature that I use regularly.
However with working from home more I needed to sort a nailed up IPSec VPN, so I got the TP-R600VPN. After having a look I realised it would only seem to work if I had the R600 connected to my fibre modem via the WAN1 Port and made that my default gateway/internet router.
After changing some configs looks good, the C6 still is the DHCP server but gives out the default gateway as the R600.
Then I realised parental controls now don't work, becase the devices can still talk to the new default gateway.
Is there any way around this? I have played about but I cannot find one. I thought I might be able to set the C6 back as the default gateway and then add a wildcard route that meant any traffic for the internet is sent over to the R600, but I cannot seem to add the route, it seems to want a valid IP address rather than a wildcard like 0.0.0.0.
Any ideas appreciated.

Hello, may I know the detailed network layout now? Is the R600VPN working as the main router or the C6?
If the R600VPN is the main router and the layout is like modem==R600VPN==C6, there should be no issue with the Parental Control settings on the C6.

Hopefully the below snippet of the router part of the network is suitable?
Fibre modem connects to WAN1 on the VPN Router and then one of it's LAN ports connects to one of the LAN ports on the Archer C6.
I did try using the WAN port on the Archer C6 but I don't think this will work as it will mess up the VPN connection as I don't think my local network will then be able to talk to the VPN router?

Hello,
As per the network layout and details you provided now, it shows the C6 is working as an Access Point, and one of it's LAN ports of the VPN router connects to one of the LAN ports on the Archer C6. If the C6 is working as an Access Point, the parental control on it will not take effect.
For more details about this, please refer to the below article:

May it help.

OK But is there any way around this? The C6 doesn't so IPSec tunnels which is something I now need and the R600 doesn't do parental controls, I was hoping there was a solution but in order for the IPSec VPN to work it seems the R600 must be the gateway and be the one with the WAN connection?

Hello,
Try to configure the C6 as a router and connect the LAN port of the 600VPN to the WAN port of the C6, choose Dynamic IP as the WAN connection type.
May it help.

I did try this but it didn't seem to work....I don't think it makes the VPN accessible from my local network? Once the VPN is completely in the "WAN" zone I also cannot seem to access it's web interface. Unless I am setting something up wrong?

Hi, this should work. Can you try to reset the C6 to factory defaults and reconfigure it from scratch, it is not suggested to import the previous config file.
After the reset, leave the C6 as a wireless router and connect the LAN port of the 600VPN to its WAN port, choose Dynamic IP as the WAN connection type, ensure there is a correct IP address assigned by the 600VPN.
Connect a PC to the C6, then confirm if it works.
Good days.

I may try this at some point however setting it all up again is a lot more work than I really wanted to fix this issue, it took me ages to get the IPsec VPN working with our Sonicwall and if I start changing the local network range etc it will break again.

Hello, sorry for not making it clear.
There is no need to reset the host R600VPN, we just need to reset the C6 by following the procedures I replied to you previously. But if that is also too much work, you may take your time when you are available.
Sorry about that.
