@HansF Hi, I have the same configuration as you have. AX6000 and a RE505X. Here, unfortunately, I was unable to configure the RE505X to work with the AX6000. It connects only at 2.4GHz, the 5GHz band is not found. I have Onemesh enabled and also the smart connection. As soon as I disable the smart connection and configure the 5GHz network to work on channel 36, the RE505x can see it and I can connect at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but the connection is unstable. What did you do to succeed ?!

@Kevin_Z

Also see my previous post.

After a lot of testing with the AX6000 and the RE505X in OneMesh setup a very disappointing result:

Creating a stable Onemesh setup for these 2 products was a challenge. In fact it did require multiple reboots of the router and extender.

At the point OneMesh finally did work kind of stable, I also added Smart Connect (as advised by TP-link). To me this solution completely is not working and absolutely not meeting my expectations. E.g. 4K AV equipment requiring fast network access constantly did connect to 2.4G instead of 5G resulting in poor performance.

After several issues found with the new OneMesh Firmware, the final problem detected was that the RE505X, without any notification and during the night, did stop to communicate to router's WAN with local LAN en WiFi OK.

This has been the point where I completely switched off Onemesh on the AX6000 and the RE505X. Still running the new Firmware on the AX6000 but all other is back to previous state.

In general a poor experience. To me, TP-link's OneMesh solution is close to a complete mess. In my opinion still a lot of homework to do for TP-link before this solution is production ready.

@PickaBoo

The firmware we provided here can be upgraded onto the US version.

@M____

Hi, thanks for reporting the issue to the community.

As per your description, it seems that the distance between the RE605X and the AX6000 is a little far away, or there are walls or other obstacles that interferences with the signal, and as you found the RSSI was -62 for RE605 compared to -90 for AX6000, which is not good to build up an Onemesh connection. You may try to relocate the RE605X and ensure you are getting a better signal from the AX6000, then confirm if the speed would be better.

Just to confirm, when using high speed mode (2.4 Ghz to AX and 5Ghz to clients), is the RE605X connecting to the AX6000 via 2.4Ghz, and the clients connect to the RE605X via 5Ghz? Can you please also confirm how is the RE605X connected to the AX6000 when the Onemesh is enabled? Is it also connected at 2.4GHz?

@HansF

What if you leave the Smart Connect turned off on the AX6000, will the 4K AV equipment connect to the 5G network?

@Kevin_Z is there a path to downgrade (revert) to the last official AX6000 firmware, 1.1.1?

@RockPaper

May I know the reason why you want to downgrade? This new 1.2.1 cannot be rolled back, while we will try to work it out if you are experiencing an issue.

@Kevin_Z

Thank you for taking the time to look into the matter. When using OneMesh, the RE605 and AX are connected on both bands.

The OneMesh works much better when I moved the RE closer to AX. However, not solved the instability problem.

I've done the test that you suggested. I moved the RE605X closer to the router. In the place where it is located the RSSI is ca. -60. Signal strengths for the 5Ghz band:

1) ca. 1 meter from the RE605X, in the direction away from AX6000, clean line of sight to RE605, one wall and ceiling to AX6000: RSSI (RE605X): ca. - 60, RSSI (AX6000): ca. -80

2) ca. 3 meters from the RE605X, same direction. one wall between RE605X and AX6000: RSSI (RE605X): ca. -70, RSSI (AX6000): ca. -85

3) ca. 3 meters from RE605, 2 meters from AX6000: RSSI (RE605): ca. -60, RSSI (AX6000): ca. -35

The RE605 is connected on both 2.4 Ghz band (286Mbps) and 5Ghz (1200 Mbps).

When the client connects directly to AX6000, everything works perfectly. When it is connected to RE605, it works well for ca. 1 hour. After that, it starts dropping packages and even "hangs" for 5-10 seconds at a time, for about 1-2 minutes. Then it starts operating normally for about 1 hour again, and then it happens again. The % of dropped packages spikes from ca. 1-10% on average to over 40-50% at that time. I use StarTrinity Continuous speed test to monitor the transfers here.

I pretty much control the environment with only two clients during the measurement and not much outside noise. no other 5Ghz networks detected, 2-3 other 2.4Ghz network nearby, different channels, RSSI for all these networks from the neighbors are below -88.

When the connection hangs, I can see that I'm connected to RE605, the signal strength is pretty good (RSSI ca -70, the second measurement above), a reference client that is closer to AX and is connected to AX directly experiences no problems. This issue is visible mostly when using videoconferencing or playing a game. Watching video, listening to music has buffering that handles this.

The Smart Connect feature does not work for me, as all clients always downgrade to 2.4 Ghz band.

Now, for your question regarding the speed mode (OneMesh turned off): Yes, the AX and RE connect on the 2.4 Ghz and the clients on 5Ghz. Then there is no issue with the dropped/hanged connection. When they are connected on both bands, the same issue arises.

Could you prepare a different firmware compilation (beta) where the high-speed mode can be set to manual when OneMesh is enabled? I'd be very happy to test it.

Thanks in advance,

-M
