AX11000 & RE605X - How to configure WDS?

Model: Archer AX11000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.1

Hello there,

I do have AX11000 & RE605X. I have tried the latest beta firmware and it didn't work as intended for me. So, I have reverted back to stable firmware and while exploring router configutation, I found that there is an option for WDS.

  • Would it be possible to enable WDS between AX11000 router and RE605X range extender?
  • Would it be possible to enable WDS between AX11000 router and ATT Uverse modem BGW320-505 (Automatic channel selection enabled)?

Any further guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is no need to enable WDS between the AX11000 and RE605X, as you can connect them wirelessly by simply configuring the RE605X in range extender mode.

This would not be guaranteed, as the WDS mechanism may be different made by different manufactures.

BTW, the official Onemesh firmware for the AX11000 will be released soon, you can wait and confirm if that version would resolve the issue you were previously experiencing.

@Kevin_Z

Glad to hear that.

I have AX11000 in living room (connected to ATT giber modem via Cat5e cable at distance of less than 50ft) and I do get good speeds. So, no issues with that.

I have RE605X in bed room and I am using it to prmarly use Ether port out of it as my office machine doesn't have good Wireless card and I get frequent drops.

I connected RE605X to AX11000 with normal setup as you suggested. However, that satisfies my requirement but I ended up getting another SSID.

I think with mesh technology, I should be able to seeminglessly transfer between AX1000 and RE605X.

Shall I able to connect to RE605X in mesh mode while the AX11000 in AP mode?

  • I think with mesh technology, I should be able to seamlessly transfer between AX1000 and RE605X.

Yes, that's correct  - see the OneMesh description.

  • Shall I able to connect to RE605X in mesh mode while the AX11000 in AP mode?

No, see the OneMesh FAQ - Q8/A8.

I believe the below statement is not true:

"

I do have an AX11000 with the latest firmware. Brought RE605X from Amazon to address a dead spot in my home. Updated RE605X firmware too. However, there is no seamless transition when I visit the dead spot except the fact that I disable WiFi connection and re-connect to get it working. Tried with Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra & Samsung Galaxy S8. Both gave same results. I will probably return RE605X as it isn't providing any seamless transition as suggested in Spec.

Have you configured RE605X to join AX11000 OneMesh (not just as a simple range extender) ?

Upon successful configuration of RE605X you should be able to see the RE here:

(Example is from AX20, but should be the same for AX11000)

Here are the steps to build OneMesh - Chapter 10.1 (The user guide is from AX6000, but it should be the same for AX11000)

Here's a video for adding a RE to OneMesh capable router.

Yes, it is conneted as one mesh on AX11000

Incidentally, tried with a different device which has AX200 network card and it is switchig. However, looks like the spec is not detecting Samsung networking equipment which according to samsung is 802.11k and 802.11r compliant for the devices I tested:

That's really interesting.

I am not using OneMesh myself to be able to confirm this on my side, though I have Samsung 10e and Samsung S8 edge around.

It could be a FW flaw either on AX11000 or RE605X. It's worth contactng support to report/investigate the root cause for this issue, before returning the RE.

It may help other users if they encounter the same symptoms.

Yes, I will give their support heads up. Idea behind onemesh is obviously ease of navigation handy network devices like phones which in this case is not working as expected.

Problem with TP-Link support is that their folks get to work and start trouble shooting in the middle of night US timing.
