Dear Forum,

I bought the WP-281 starter kit which contains the WP-281 powerline adapter with Wireless N. What I didn't realise is that the remote unit doesn't have wireless, it's only the head unit which does. Can I purchase a second WP-281 and use the 2 WP-281's together with wireless at each end instead of the remote unit supplied which only has Ethernet cable connectivity.

Cheers,

David

hi David,
at the Router end, you have to wire into the powerline adapter, it CAN'T going through wirelessly at the router end.
the connection goes like below:
Router plug into wired powerline adapter ----(power) ----TL-WPA281 wifi/ethernet connection out(you can connect both ethernet cable or using wirelessly)
hopefully it helps.

I realise that the router needs plugging in to the WP281, can this unit also be used as a wireless access point as well as the remote WP281. The house is an old stable block with extremely thick walls so I need several access points to give full coverage.

hi David,
the answer is yes.
you can use Router--TL-WPA281 ---- TL-WPA281 )))))
then you have two access points(independent wifi SSID)
you can use Maxium 8 of this nodes in the same network,
but note that all of them share the whole powerline bandwidth(200Mbps)

Given this configuration, is it possible for me to connect to any of my devices connected to TL-WPA281 from outside my network, from the Internet, globally?
I know my broadband router is capable of port forwarding, but I guess both TL-PA211 and TL-WPA281 will also need to be?
Can somebody please confirm if they are, indeed?

gree0115, even you bought one more WPA281, you still need to connect it to the router by using an ethernet cable. You need to use a cable to transfer the internet packages from the router to the powerline adapter.

Yes, it can. You need to do the port forwarding on the router because the router has NAT and firewall that separate the public network and private network. Since the powerline adapters do not have NAT or firewall, you do not need to open port on it.
