What's the difference between MAC Filtering & Access Control

They seems to do exactly the same, isn't it?

In here:

Advanced ==> Wireless Settings ==> MAC Filtering

Advanced ==> Security ==> Access Control (Whitelist)

@KIMWW

Hi,

Do you have a router that has both at the same time or are you talking about different generations of TP-Link's router user interface (old vs. new)?

Anyway, I think one difference is that the Whitelist/Blacklist Access Control feature works for devices connected via wireless as well as via Ethernet cable, while the Wireless MAC Filtering feature only controls access (allow/deny) of devices that are connected to the router via wireless.

They do pretty much the same, but whilst MAC filtering does this for wireless clients only, the Access Control does it for both wired and wireless clients.

You also should bare in mind that in older router's FW versions and entry level routers Access Control has some additional functions (like websites blocking).
