Firmware Version: Latest

Hi, I have just bought a dozen pieces MR600 for my business. After configure i download and install OpenVPN 2.6 beta from 28 December 2022 r. I noticed that OpenVPN is not working. Connects correctly (green icon) but no communication with LAN (ping and rdp not working). After a long search i found that the compression option is to blame. In future OpenVPN 2.6 compression will be disable by default and MR600 have default compression enabled in OpenVPN server.

We can`t change this settings :/ from GUI. For now to work my OpenVPN server i'm back to OpenVPN 2.5.8 and connect with comp-lzo adaptive in client config and now everything works but in future release when i update OpenVPN client to final 2.6 version it will stop working again so please in next firmware update remove compression from OpenVPN server or add in GUI options for users do enable/disable compression. In the future, the problem will affect not only me.

I also read that compression is a security risk and which is why OpenVPN team disable this option in future release.

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

May I know the firmware version of your MR600 V3? We will report this issue to senior engineers and run some tests to confirm it.

If the problem indeed exists, we will fix it in future firmware update.

after few more test (now we have OpenVPN 2.6 rc2 almost final release) and asking people on openvpn board i can tell that compression not working because new OpenVPN version also add new network driver dco. This new driver openvpn-dco under Windows and Linux with final version 2.6 will be default driver that OpenVPN will use. So maybe if i test compression with other older driver like wintun or tap possibly it would work but anyway everyone on the OpenVPN forum recommends not to use the compression option which is simply abandoned and considered unsafe.

If the creators of OpenVPN directly write not to use compression, then we must just do it.

any information about this issue ?

after i update OpenVPN to version 2.6 i can`t connect anymore to my router.

In logs i have:

2023-02-01 10:29:36 Exiting due to fatal error

2023-02-01 10:29:46 WARNING: Compression for receiving enabled. Compression has been used in the past to break encryption. Sent packets are not compressed unless "allow-compression yes" is also set.
