Hello,

a few months ago I moved and ordered a SIM card with unlimited data to have internet during that time. I needed a 3G/4G router and ordered the TP-LINK TL-MR6400 from Amazon.

I was happy to have workaround internet because it took some time to get normal internet at this location here, but one thing always annoyed me - the speed.

I don't know, if it has something to do with the frequences (I live in Germany), but with the SIM card in the router, I get a download speed of 5-10 Mbit/s and that's really when it's at it's best.

After some time, I starting worrying if it was the right purchase. Also because I saw the TP-LINK MR600 is actually better (for 30-40€ more), so to find out if it has something to do with the router or the SIM card, I put the SIM card in my phone and without changing anything at home, I had a download speed of 30-70 Mbit/s.

So my question is, does it really have something to do with the frequences the router supports? Is it something else? Could it be wrong configuration?

I just want to add, that I tested the speed in the same room and that I didn't do anything different, the position of the router and the phone was basically the same.

Regards

Actually the TL-MR6400 is an LTE CAT4 product, it doesn't support 4G+, but most smartphones now support much higher LTE category such as LTE CAT6, CAT9, CAT11 etc. which are 4G+, or even 5G. Therefore, it doesn't make sense to compare two products with different LTE category.

The MR600 you mentioned is an LTE Cat6 product, so usually the speed would be better than MR6400 as long as it works on 4G+ even though it might be still slower than smartphone.

For your current MR6400, you could also try to follow the troubleshooting guide below to see if the speed could be improved:
