No Internet / Unidentified Network
No Internet / Unidentified Network
Hi all, I've recently got myself a TPlink Archer AX55. I was able to set it up while connected via Ethernet without any problems, but I would run into a No Internet/Unidentified network prompt after a few days. Factory resetting the modem would help, but the problem would still return after some time. All the lights on the modem are green and there shouldn't be any problems, but I can't seem to get it working consistently. My router just wouldn't give the PC an IP address automatically, either being connected via Ethernet or through Wifi, but would sometimes get internet when I manually type an IP address within the DHCP address pool.
I've already made sure that the LAN cable is connected from the modem to the WAN port of the TPlink device. What baffles me is that every time I factory reset the router, everything would work fine for a few days, but would still end up having No Internet/Unidentified Network with my PC having no IP address (169.254.xxx.xx) after a while.
Really hoping someone could help me out here, Cheers.

@woozle hi, sorry I am not familiar what the "Homeshield Pro" service is. I have only done the initial setup for my Archer AX55 unit.

Ok, that's fine. Then you are not using Homeshield Pro.
Homeshield Pro has some features like DDoS protection and intruder protection and I thought something like this might be the issue.
Do you have other devices connected to the router, besides the PC? Is only the PC affected by the problem?

@woozle I have some mobile devices connected to the TPlink router via wifi. Some of them have internet while for some reason others would have the prompt "Connected, but no internet". But the PC which is connected via Ethernet is the one that's having the most problems.

Are you sure that a normal reset (or powering the AX55 off and on) does not solve the connection problem for a while? Only Factory Reset helps?

@woozle Unfortunately yes. My only other choice to regain internet connection on my PC is when I try and assign my IP address manually.
What I have not tried is setting my ISP provided modem to bridge mode. Would that help with any DHCP assignments to devices connected via either Ethernet or Wifi?

Is your AX55 set up in "Wireless Router Mode" or "Access Point Mode"?
If the AX55 is setup in Router Mode, then for the DHCP it wouldn't matter if the ISP modem is in bridge mode or not.
What is the IP address, Gateway address and DNS address you get on the AX55's "Internet" connection? Is it 192.168.0.1 like shown in the example picture or something else?

@woozle The router is currently set up as Wireless Router Mode.
I can't seem to attach a photo, but here's the details of the TPlink router.
IP address: 192.168.1.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

Ok, so the ISP router's local network is in the 192.168.1.x subnet, while the AX55's LAN is certainly using the default 192.168.0.x subnet.
I cannot see any problems with that.
Still, when the problem with the PC happens again disconnect the Ethernet cable between the ISP router and the AX55 and then check if this allows the PC to obtain IP addresses from the AX55's DHCP.
By the way, have you configured any Access Control or IP MAC Binding rules on the AX55?

@woozle Okay, when it happens again I'll give it a look.
No, I haven't configured any access control on the AX55. I've only tried to set preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as secondary.
