When I go through to connect it does not show up but a random name does which I guess is the previous owners Wi-Fi network name for the range extender. I can't connect to this as it is password protected- can I get around this or do I need the sellers password?

While the RE305 is plugged into a wall socket press and hold the small recessed RESET button that you can find near the LAN port.
After the RE305 has been reset to factory settings you can then configure it as per the instructions in the Quick Guide or User's Guide.
