Model: PG2400P KIT
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.3 Build 20221213 Rel.62540

I have just bought 2 x PG2400P KIT g.hn powerline adapters, to supplement my Deco XE75 Pro mesh network, to provide - I hoped - better Ethernet speeds for specific devices on my network, specifically a TV set top box (which has no WiFi) and a couple of my children's gaming consoles (PS4 and XBox One). My set up is as follows:

  • Main router is a BT Smart Hub 2, connected to a 900Mbps (down), 110Mpbs (up) full fibre connection via an OpenReach ONT.
  • A three node mesh based on Deco XE75 Pro units in Access Point mode. The main node connects via a Cat7 Ethernet cable from its 2.5Gbps port to the BT router, with the other two Deco XE75 Pro nodes strategically placed for best overall coverage with 6Ghz WiFi backhaul.
  • 3 of the 4 PG2400P powerline adapters are placed in rooms where there is no Deco node, with the 4th placed near to and connected via a Cat5e cable to the main Deco XE75 Pro (which in turn connects to the router).

When I check with a laptop in each of three rooms that have a PG2400P adapter, Internet speed tests when on WiFi (via the Deco mesh) are typically around 300/106Mbps down/up with pinh times of around 75/23ms down/up but when I connect the laptop via Ethernet cable to any one of the PG2400P adapters I typically get no more than 76/70Mbps down/up with much higher ping times of around 165/165ms down/up. My children are not happy!

I tried connecting the main PG2400P directly to the router (rather than via the main Deco XE75 node) and it makes no difference.

Why are the PG2400P adapters delivering such poor speeds? I am thinking of returning them for a full refund, becuase they are not performing anywhere near what I would expect.

  @cocofyn Some more info... this is in a 1990 residential property, with a single consumer unit and all electrical wiring was upgraded to current standards about two years ago. It was about 2 months ago I upgraded from VDSL (FTTC) running at about 60/20Mbps, to the 900/110Mbps full fibre (FTTP) and Deco XE75 mesh. Close to the Deco units I get good speeds - from about 400/100Mbps to 450/105Mbps over WiFi 6, and anywhere from 450/105Mbps to over 600/110Mbps on Ethernet connections to the Deco units 1Gbps ports.

  @cocofyn

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

It is recommanded to install tpPLC utility on your computer and connect the computer to one of the powerline adapters, then check the powerline rates of the three PG2400P with the main PG2400P one by one.

For relationship between powerline rate and actual internet speed, please refer to this guide: Explanation about the Powerline Rate and Actual speed of the Powerline Adapters

If the powerline rate is too low, please refer to this guide to see if it will be better: What can I do if my powerline rate is very low?

  @cocofyn Well, thanks for nothing. So, you're basically saying I get the speeds I get. There's no practical help in the two articles you referenced, apart from what I've already done. So, I've returned the g.hn adapters for a refund, and reverted to using my old AV2 adapters which work much better.

I have the same issue, I replaced my AV2's have connection speeds on the TP Utility of circa 100-150Mbps faster than the PG2400P. The actual measured throughput however was about 40% less than the AV2's. So I've gone back to the AV2's. There is cross talk from the data transmission through the pass through plug which I'm picking up on the headphones I'm using on the PC. On the PGW2440 I have noticed a massive drop is speed. When I have tried changing the bandwidth of the WiFi, whilst it changes on the GUI, physically it doesn't change, always at 20MHz. Also the channels are seriously restricted. All in all a disappointing product given the strength the AV2's have.
