Model: Archer AX73
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.5 Build 20230919 rel.12938(4555)

After updating to firmware 1.3.5 Build 20230919 rel.12938(4555) the 5GHz is slow and appear intermittent and simply stop working on occasion. The 2.4GHz is now slow as...

I've changed nothing and really have no clue how to fix it...and it doesn't appear that I'm alone to have issues either?

" Note: This firmware can not be degraded to the previous version. "

If the above applies this router is almost to be considered bricked until a fix comes out?

  @Ax73v1

Hi, you could also try the beta firmware provided in this thread to see if it solves the problem:

Archer AX73 V1&V2 might reboot automatically when working together with some Range Extenders

You can install any firmware with this method  https://www.tp-link.com/uk-ua/support/faq/1482/

Update:

In what perhaps only could be described as an act of desperation lacking, any substantial knowlegde of what I'm doing, I tried changing channels and widths to "Auto" as much as possible.

Currently running the below with Smart Connect disabled (always has been disabled).

2.4Ghz

Channel Width: 20/40 Mhz

Channel: Auto

Mode: 802.11b/g/n/ax mixed

5Ghz

Channel Width: 20/40/80/160MHz

Channel: Auto

Mode: 802.11a/n/ac/ax mixed

For some reason the above appear to have provided a more stable service.

The 2.4Ghz still appear quite slow and sluggish, but I can't tell if this is how it has always been since I'm mostly on the 5Ghz.*

*Some devices in my home did not do well with Smart Connect (Google Chrome TV) which is why I opted to run the two separate.

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

May I know if the wired connection, 2.4G and 5G Wireless connections are all stable? the only issue now is 2.4G WiFi slow?

Usually 2.4G WiFi has too much wireless interference and indeed slower than 5G WiFi.

You could try to use WiFi Analyzer etc. to scan available wireless networks nearby and check which 2.4G WiFi channel is less crowded, then select the less crowded channel for your router manually to see if it will be faster.

If there is still any speed issue, please let me know the wired speed, 2.4G and 5G wireless speed of the router for comparison.

Please also make sure only one device is connected to the router when running speedtest.

  @Sunshine

I just ran the basic speedtest provided by google (M-Lab) - nothing fancy, logic being that if I test all three the same way the delta in the results should be representative.

First of all - things seem to have become more stable after the tweak - there is less hyperventilation and sobbing among the kids in the house.

Wired:

276.0 Mbps down / 255.4 Mbs up / Latency 9 ms

5Ghz:

259.0 Mbps down / 98.7 Mbps up / Latency 10 ms

2.4Ghz

1.71 Mbps down / 3.34 Mbps up / Latency 37 ms

See where I'm coming from saying the 2.4GHz seem slow? :D

I'm going to try using specific channels on the 2.4 Ghz as opposed to the current setting 'Auto'. I am however skeptical to the inference theory as I changed nothing in setting before/after Firmware update (2.4Ghz was on channel 11) and issues began after said update... I can however of course not rule out the odd coincidence that someone else on the street entered the scene with inteference.

Hi, thank you very much for the reply, there is indeed a huge difference on the 2.4G WiFi speed compared with wired and 5G connection.

Do you remember the 2.4G speed before the firmware update?

When you try changing the wireless channel for 2.4G WiFi, except for running speedtest, you could also check the wireless link speed between the client device and the router to see if that is the limit: How to check the associated/link speed on a wireless client

  @Sunshine thank you for engaging so much in this.

The associated linkspeeds per below - will fiddle with the channels later today on the 2.4G.

5G - 520 Mbps

2.4G - 130 Mbps

Wired - tba

Tested the speed again (same method as above) - seeing improvement on the 2.4G vs yesterday.

2.4G - 11.6 Mbps down / 22.3 Mbps up / Latency 10 ms

5G - 272.0 Mbps down / 248.2 Mbps up / Latency 10 ms

The 5G is pretty slick today.

  @SwedishLaban

Have exactly the same issue  AX73v1 update to 1.3.5 build 20230922 (US) and all wifi connection is super slow (1Mbps vs 300-600 prior to upgrade), connection drops off, sometimes just cannot connect to wifi, though wifi is visible. Can not downgrade to previous firmware - router says "upload error" when uploading older firmware (correct US version of 1.2.6). Wired connection works fine. Speedtest shows "socket error".

Debug info - I have all WiFi bands enabled, no smart connect, guest network enabled, around 80 devices connected simultaneously )mostly smart home, 5-6 phones, a few tablets, a few TVs.

Internet connection is 1Gbps

  @SwedishLaban

If your Archer AX73 router is acting up after the firmware update:

  1. Reboot Router: Try restarting your router. Simple, but it often helps.

  2. Factory Reset: If issues persist, do a factory reset. Backup settings first.

  3. Contact Support: Reach out to TP-Link's support for assistance.

  4. Check Forums: Visit TP-Link or tech forums to see if others have solutions.

  5. Wait for Update: If all else fails, wait for a new firmware update. Be patient.

I have the same problem. Furthermore, the router keeps reloading a few times per day. @TP link support, when we could expect new FW version with fixed bugs? Why we could not reverts the FW version?
