Model: Archer C80
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.12.11 Build 230602 Rel.72353n

Please add Client Mode to Archer C88.

(C88 was not selectable above, therefore I selected the closed model. Correct Hardware Version: Archer C88 2.20)

Reasoning:

- Similar function can be already achieved with WDS mode, so implementation should be comparativly simple

- In WDS mode the additional Wireless network in the same frequency reduces the achievable connection performance and reception of the router and surrounding wifi devices

- This would make this use obvious for endusers, the WDS option is difficult to locate and configure for novices.

- This comparativly cheap and energy efficient router is perfect to forward existing wireless to multiple LAN devices.

- You add one more option to integrate TP-Link device into competitor networks potentially increasing your sales

(In fact I would recommend the router to a friend who has bad Wifi reception in his TV-Rack and some devices with bad antennas tend to disconnect occasionally)

  @PBMacros

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback, our home routers usually don't support client mode, and we will report this suggestion to development team for evaluation.

At the same time, you could also consider our home access points which usually supports client mode such as TL-WA1801 | AX1800 Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Access Point

@Sunshine Thank you for the suggestion, however the TL-WA1801 has both only one ethernet port (which would require an additional switch) and higher power requirements. A few €/$ per year are relevant in these price segments.

Thus it is not suitable for the highlighted use case.

@ All:

I found a solution suitable for now. While the router only allows to enable WDS while operating as access point in the same frequency range (2.4GHz or 5GHz) you can actually turn the wireless AP of after you have established an WDS connection. The router will show WDS as disabled in the interface, but it will still connect to your wifi and can work as a client only. This persists over reboots. I get connection speeds of 470 Mbits/sec trough a signle wall in 5GHz.

Still it could offer much better performance when operating in designated client mode as both frequencies could be used simultaneously.

Also the settings and interface would be much more friendly.
