What is the hardware version of your TL-WR840N? (should be printed on the label on the underside of the router)
In case the hardware version is 5.0 or higher, then log into the router's web GUI, go to the "Operation Mode" menu and switch to "Range Extender".
If your TL-WR840N is version 4.x, then you might need to update the firmware before the "Range Extender" mode becomes available.
