Model: Archer AX23
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20230725 Rel. 56344(4555)

Hello,

I have an AX1800 router, and I'm experiencing sporadic ping spikes over a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection (as shown in the attached image). These spikes are significantly impacting my video conferencing and gaming experience.

I've tried several troubleshooting steps, including changing the channel width, manually configuring different channels, disabling EasyMesh, and adjusting additional settings like the Beacon interval etc, but nothing has resolved the issue.

A quick search revealed some related topics (specifically with AX1800 TX20U adapters), where it was suggested that this issue might be related to 802.11kv packets sent from the router. I wonder if there's a way to disable the 802.11kv/r features—unfortunately, I haven't found an option to do so.

This issue clearly seems to be related to the Wi-Fi connection, not the ISP, as everything works fine (ping is stable) when I use an Ethernet connection to the router.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance with this frustrating issue.

Thank you!

thanks a lot for your reply!

though I am afraid that the guideline does not address my specific issue, since I do not observe the persistent high or average ping, rather sporadical repetitive ping spikes (please see the screenshot attached).

the closest one is case 3 -> however, I've changed configurations to minimize the possibility of interference (for instance defined dedicated channel, not occupied by any neighboring routers), see the screen:

Additionally, the current firmware is up to date:

Hi, thanks for your update.

I can understand your worries. But according to the related description in this guide, the result of your ping test is normal most time.

In gaming, any amounts below a ping of 20ms are considered exceptional and “low ping,” amounts between 50ms and 100ms range from very good to average, while a ping of 150ms or more is deemed “high ping.” But the ping result depends on how you test the ping and which server you are connected.

So I think your ping test result belongs to normal range most time. I am not sure the brand name or  system version of  your client devices which have high ping value. Welcome to share more details about the problem or the specific phenomena. Also, it is suggested to test following the instructions in the guide above. Even if the suggestions cannot help you solve your issue, please contact TP-Link technical support with the following information or share us feedback here.(Also in this guide.)
