Hi, I recently took advantage of the low price on X10 on amazon UK and bought one because I needed another satellite on top of my existing three M5s.

I am finding it hard to compare X10 to my existing M5s.

I replaced one of my satellite M5s with the new X10 just to test and I found I was getting more than twice the speed when my device connected to the x10 as compared to the M5 with the same device and location.

Before I go ahead, I wanted to ask the experts here whether I should use the X10 as my main unit and the M5s as satellites.

All advice and recommendations including upgrades welcome. Many thanks.

Thanks for the advice.

I did this now, set up the X10 as the main Deco and the three M5s are all satellites to it.

I no longer see any issues when moving from room to room and my device is seamlessly connecting to the best M5. Also the speed has increased by about 40%.

Hi,

Deco X10 has higher specifications, and you can check whether you need to set it as the main Deco according to your needs.

You can refer to this thread: precautions for a Deco mixed network

As mentioned in earlier post, I am doing a test with the X10 as a satellite at the moment. One of the M5s is still the main unit. What I notice is that my mobile phone does not automatically connect to the X10 even when the device is stable and is located in direct line of sight of the X10. The X10 delivers a much higher speed than the M5 when I manually switch over to it in the Deco app > Connection preference.

The X10 has the greatest signal strength and the M5 that the mobile phone is connected to has the lowest strength and is one floor above!

Can you please explain why that is? This somewhat bothers me....if I make the X10 the main unit, will the other M5s and devices be able to hook onto it easily?

There are no clients for the X10 despite it having the strongest signal. Nothing connects to it. Any suggestions?

The X10 is the better unit.  Typically it is recommended that the main/primary router is set up in a central location in the home.  As such it typically (and automatically) connects to the most clients/devices.   Since it is an AX (WiFi 6) router vs AC (WiFi 5) router it is a generation newer, plus it is rated 1500 vs 1300.

Per my understanding of how DECOs work the X10 is going to be limited by the capability of the M5 in a mesh setup, but it would be best to set it up as the main router then add the M5s as nodes via DECO mesh.
