Hi Im looking for advise on setting up a network with an Archer AX72 PRO and starlink.

My starlink dish and router are located in my workshop where the connection speed is good 180mbs to the router and 200 from device to router.

my initial setup was an ethernet adapter fitted between the dish and router with the lan cable going into a switch an underground cat6 from the switch into the house and another switch connecting tv, pc , access point ect..this gave me wifi connection to the starlink router in my workshop and lan in the house. but the lan connection kept dropping out with the only way to reset was to reboot the router.

As a work around i replaced the ethernet adapter with a tp link RE550 range extender connected to my starlink router over wifi and connected to the switch via lan giving me internet in the house.a bit of a bodge i know but it works..... although the lan speed has halved from my starlink wifi.

I am now looking to replace the RE550 with a router (ax72pro) put the starlink router in bypass mode and try the ethernet connection again hoping the speed and stability improve.as below.

firstly could you guys advise if this is the best network with the available hardware of their is a better configuration?

im not sure i need the switch from the router in the workshop or if the underground cable can connect straight into the ax72?

ideally i would like the AX72 in the house but im not sure how this can be acheived and still have wifi and lan in the workshop?

lastly setting up the AX72

Thanks in advance

Hi, welcome to our community.

It is hard to say it is a best network topology or not.

I would like to share my thoughts and confusion here.

1. Archer AX72 Pro and Archer AX72 are two different models. Suppose you want a Archer AX72 Pro and I will take it for an example.

2. I am not sure  about the exact usage of your starlink Ethernet adapter. And replacing RE550 with Archer AX72 Pro, my understanding is to connect it to your current starlink router directly to extend network.

If your starlink router is a modem router, you may set it as pure modem. If your starlink router is wireless router, you may replace it with Archer AX72 Pro directly. But that also depends on how large your workshop is and the actual network environment.

3. As for whether a switch is necessary in your workshop, you may connect switch in your house to the RE550 in your workshop directly for a try. If RE550 can hold it, a router should be also ok.

4. Not sure the distance between your workshop and house, if you want to put Archer AX72 Pro in your house, there are at least two walls from the client devices in your workshop to Archer AX72 Pro, so it is hard to say the connection performance.

Appreciate your reading~
