Every now and then the DECO network goes down, and causes disruption in my home network. Normally it comes back up within 2-4 minutes. When it goes down I can see my Decos have a red light. 

 

I have phones using WIFI, and laptops connected via network cable. When network goes down, all devices disconnects. 

 

There are other devices in my network (2,4 GHz) that often struggle to reconnect to Deco after this has happened. Often I have to reboot my Deco devices and internet modem which deco is connected to before they manage to connect. My internet provider have not identified any problems on their side. 

 

My Deco is configured as router, and my internet modem is in bridge mode. 

 

My system went down today, and I logged in to the http://tplinkdeco.net/ portal and downloaded the system log. My network went down around 10:11-10:12. The system log starts 10:11:48. 

 

The system log file failed to upload. Below are some extracts which I think can be related/of interest. I am not familiar with Deco system logs.

I do not have know the following MAC addresses as they are not connected to my network after the incident:

today the Deco unit went down, with red light and getting up again after 2-4 minutes. I downloaded the system log again, and the funny thing is that there are no logs from before this happened. Shouldn't the system log contain data from several hours a day?

 

Since Friday most of my units have successfully been working fine, except one unit (2,4GHz). It started working again today after the last downtime. So it went down on Friday, and is working again now. This unit has been connected to WIFI, but haven't been able to reach my smart home server. As I wrote in my post above, the network has been rebootet, the main unit has been out of power for a couple of minutes. This didn't help for this specific unit. 

 

My main problem is to find out why the decos fall out in the first place. This is not how it should behave, and it hasn't been like this since the beginning. It started happening around a year ago, and have been worse last couple of months.

Hi, welcome to our community.

I understand that it is annoying to face the unstable connection problem now and then. But to be honest, according to your description, it is hard to say the issue is from your ISP modem or main Deco.

Here are some suggestions for your reference:

1. Follow the guide below, especially the last step in the first situation to make sure your computer can get an stable internet access from your ISP modem directly when the internet stopped working on the Deco instead of rebooting modem and main Deco immediately. If you computer failed to get internet access, it means the problem may be from your modem.

The internet connection is unstable or suddenly stops working when connected to the Deco network?

2. You may swap main Deco and satellite Deco following this guide to observe the same issue remains.

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry if I confused anyone, let me try to rephrase it.

 

When my network goes down, I can see on my decos that they are blinking red. After a few minutes they are up and running again. I don't have to reboot anything to get my network up, and my laptops and mobile connected on the internet. I have one device that struggle between two network outages, but let's leave this one out for now. 

 

So what causes my decos to blink red? I have read in another thread that the system log will tell if the link to internet is lost. I don't see this specific log line in my logs. Would be great if anyone with knowledge to the log to have a quick look. How can I upload the system log (the upload file function fails to upload)?

 

Since my ISP router is in bridge mode, I cannot connect a decive directly to it, unless it's a router. That is why I have Deco running as a router. So it doesn't make sense to test this, or it is impossible as the downtime is short.

 

I can try as you suggest to swap Deco and satelite Deco. If there is anything else I can do, I'm happy for any suggestions.

Hi, thanks for detailed update~

You may also try steps from the guide.

The Main Deco network is unstable or loses internet suddenly.

  • Make sure all the provided Ethernet cables are connected securely and replace the cables that are old and exposed.
  • Confirm only the main Deco is directly connected to the ISP modem, especially when it is on default wireless router mode.
  • Change the DNS server under IPV4 to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 per the FAQ.
  • Clone the MAC address of the old router or laptop to the main Deco per the FAQ.
  • Check the connection stability from your ISP’s modem. Disconnect the main Deco from the modem, then connect a PC or an old router directly to the ISP modem to check the network stability by Ping www.google.com for at least 1 minute. If there is packet loss or if the internet is unavailable, please contact your ISP or modem for support.
