the last LED representing the internet does not light up on my powerline extender, hence no internet, though the first 2 LED are turned green.

The last LED is Wi-Fi light instead of internet light. Pressing the button for 5 seconds will enable or disable the wireless function. If it is enabled, normally, the light will be flashing.
Did you try to access internet with a cable pluuged into ethernet port of WPA281?
