You were follow the upgrade guide for wired powerline adapters, right?
To upgrade WPA4220, it is different and bin file is the correct one.
1. Find the management utility for WPA4220 in CD or on TP-LINK website. Start the utility and choose the model to be con gured and click ‘Connect’.
2. Type in admin for username and password to login web interface of WPA4220.
3. Go to System Tools---Firmware Upgrade, browse and locate the bin file. Press upgrade.
4. Go to System Tools---Factory Default to restore settings.
4. Reconfigure it.
