Hardware Version : Not Clear

Firmware Version : latest

ISP : virgin media

Hi there,

My Archer C2(latest firmware) 5ghz speed varies alot.

I can do multiple test and get 60+ mb/s in s row then suddenly it falls off a cliff.

I can get as low as 5 but generally it will be 20 when it's on its downer, then whoosh I can get multiple goes at 60+

I've tried hard and soft resets. But it doesn't help. When it's on a downer it's on a downer.

I've ruled out channel interference because it's clear.
This also happens when I'm stood next to the router!!!!

Have you got any ideas PLEASE?

Thanks

Mark

Mark, did you try channel width 80MHz?
How many wireless clients have you tried to connect 5GHz Wi-Fi?
2.4GHz Wi-Fi is working OK?

Many thanks for the reply.

Yes I have tried 80mhz.
(tried all choices)

This happens with 2 phones, 1 iPad and an imac.
My PC is hardwired and I get 160 mbps everytime.

2 ghz I get a steady 15.

Cheers.

Suggestion:
1. Go to Wireless Advance --> Transmit Power, set to medium
2. Manually set channel to 36, 40, 44, 48, find the best channel.

AND:
Speedtest never be friendly to TP-LINK routers, the result of speedtest is not the only criterion. I had do observation on the interaction of speedtest.com, it simulates the speed performance by downloading some small pictures repeatedly, so don't be so serious to the numbers.

You can test the actual speed performance by transferring a big file between PCs (1MByte/s = 1024Mbits/s), or use Iperf. Iperf is a simple but dedicated speedtest tool.

Thanks for the suggestions and taking the time.

However I've tried my old router and its behaving the same. Didn't realise at the time.

So I'm pretty sure it's an enviromental wifi issue.

The tp-link is working Perfectly right now (I'm assuming the offending nearby router is offline at the moment)

When it happens again I'll once again go through the channels etc.

Cheers

Mark
