Hello,

My usual internet speed is about 340Mbps download and 340Mpbs upload.  I configured NordVPN as vpn Client in the router and enable it to my phone (as example ). I noticed speed dropped to ~40Mpbs! Same thing applies to other devices (laptop, desktop etc)

When I use NordVPN directly to my phone speed is about ~220Mbps. Is it as it should work? I was wondering if it's firmware related too. I think before the last update speed was around ~70. Still huge drop but now it's even worse...

While running speed tests through Deco's vpn I see Deco's CPU at 100%. No idea if it helps and don't know how high it was before the update .

Hi, welcome to our community.

The speed performance of your Deco network acting as a VPN client is normal before or after firmware update, because TP-Link router CPUs cannot handle VPN encryption as quickly as a computer acting as a VPN client. When an encrypted tunnel is established between the router and the VPN provider, it adds overhead to the router's processer/resources, resulting in a drop in performance, which also means a drop in WAN to Internet throughput.
If you want to get a higher speed performance, you can try the below methods:
1. Use a better VPN protocol, such as Wireguard > Openvpn > PPTP/L2TP
2. Adapt UDP protocol in Open vpn.

BTW, you may try the pre-release version from the thread: Deco X50/X55_V1_1.6.7 Optimized the Client Network Stability
Thank you and best regards.
