N600 randomly starts blocking my requests

Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 3.14.1 Build 150302 Rel.70490n

Picked up the N600 a few months ago. Lately it has started randomly dropping my traffic to the Internet. Nothing shows up in packet captures but the issues are only resolved after restarting the router, not my PC or modem. It will do this to with my main PC or new work laptop, not any other devices on my network or my old work laptop. However, when I disconnect the external link and plug it into my firewall, essentially putting the N600 into switch mode, it works like charm. Everything points to other factors but no matter what I do on either PC or modem, it always comes down to rebooting the router.
