Hi,

I'm a bit puzzled, a new version only for IPv6 ?

Same here, why don't TP-Link simply release firmware that support IPv6 for V2 (and V1) which is clearly supported by 3rd party firmware like OpenWRT.

As stated in another thread, the only reason I'm sticking to the stock firmware is because of Hardware NAT without it the max WAN-to-LAN throughput is around 300Mbps.

The TP-Link product marketing appears "not clean" to me:

1. They named v2 a new product without any relationship with v1 !

2. They are naming now v3 a product without hardware change !?

I guess the firmware of TL-WR1043ND v3 can also be used on V2 if their hardware are the same..

That's a good question !
It should be interesting to have the answer from TP-Link to the following:
Why a new version only for firmware improvements?

Nope, it wouldn't work, the firmware upgrade process will check and notify that it's not meant for v2 hardware. Guessed there must be slight hardware difference between these model or TP-Link might have hard-coded it somewhat so that they can sell it at a higher price.

Successfuly flashed WR1043ND V3 firmware on V2 hardware
2015-08-30 21:55:57
Dear All,
With the help of open source router firmware I have successfully flash WR1043ND V3 firmware on V2 hardware.

[FYI: as per FCC documentation {officially provided by TP-Link} V3 has exact same electrical hardware as V2 & the snapshots provided show same external look as well]

[Disclaimer: You yourself will be responsible in-case you end up bricking your router by following in my foot steps.]

I have posted my experience in the world's top two open source Router firmware forums.

For the exact procedure, Kindly google WR1043ND V3 with open source firmware name & check out my post in their respective forums.

I am not going to post the same guide here as I am sure it will be against this forum's policy.

[PS; Sorry for this kind of a shady post, as I was trying my best not to break any rules related to this forum policy]

Regards,
Sarmad

@Sarmad,

Many thanks buddy, found your posting and it really work. So happy that I can extend the "life' of this router although I have already switched to other router for day-to-day usage.

One question on step 5, why is there a need to flash the original firmware after reboot?

Because this is when we update the u-boot.

@Sarmad: thanks for posting tutorial, working. :)
