Firmware Version: EB810v(EU1)v1.0_0.5.0_3.0.0_Build20240821

I have an EB810v connected to the internet via an external 10Gbit FTTH ONT connected to the WAN port

I have a 4G-SIM Ethernet Lan Router connected to a LAN port of the EB810v that I would like to use as a backup link to the internet when the WAN is down.

I can't configure this connection or an alternative static router to direct traffic.

Can you give me a suggestion?
Thanks

Hi@LucaBacchi,

Sorry for the late reply.

Generally speaking, if you want to set up the backup function of a 4G LTE router, you need to set it up on the 4G LTE router.

So it is recommended that you contact support to confirm how to set it up.

Please note, EB810v is a customized device specifically designed for local Service Providers. Its software is tailored to meet the unique requirements of these providers, ensuring alignment with their specific needs.

Due to the specialized nature of the firmware on your device, our ability to provide troubleshooting may be limited. We recommend contacting the technical support of your Service Provider who supplied the device, as they are best suited to provide the necessary assistance for your device.

According to its specs EB810v doesn't have the capability to use another router for backing up its internet connection.

Some 4G/5G routers have this feature - details. If you connect such 4G/5G router as your main router and the EB810v to its LAN port you probably would achieve the internet connection backup.

Hi @LucaBacchi,

Thank you for consulting our community.

May I know what is the model of your 4G SIM router? If it is a Deco unit, you can refer to How to set up 3G/4G or 4G/5G Backup on Deco router

If it is a 4G LTE router, please refer to How to set up Wireless Router mode and 3G/4G Backup on TP-Link LTE Gateway

  @Joseph-TP

Thanks Joseph, the Backup is a Cudy 4G LTE but it could be any 4G/5G Sim Router.

The real problem is that EB810v does not have a strategy to be able to define on the physical LAN ports an alternative backup port to the WAN or to be able to define a route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 towards a LAN.

Let me explain better:

To be able to use 4G LTE I configured a second LINK on the Internet connection part. Since EV810ev has only one port defined as WAN, in case of failure I have to physically disconnect the ONT FTTH Ethernet 10Gbit from this port and connect the 4G 10Mbit LAN cable and everything works, but it's all manual (I could put a 4-port 10Gbit switch and keep all 3 cables connected... but it would cost as much as the router and it wouldn't make sense since 4G requires 10 Mbit)

The solution could therefore easily be found in these two alternatives:

-1 Being able to define one of the LAN ports as a WAN Backup and therefore define an alternative link (as I did but without the need to disconnect/connect the cable)

-2 Being able to define an alternative static route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0  from the EB810v Menu but this is not possible, it does not accept the values.

Is it possible that such a trivial feature cannot be made?

Is it not possible to do it from the command line or somehow not using the interface?

Thanks

  @Joseph-TP

Hi Josep, we are a Italian System Integrator, and this device is connected to Provider as 'compatible device'

Since Eb810ev is has spectacular feature i very don't understand why is not possibile to add a very simple static route to handle backup when primary fall

There are many manu functionality but not basis and 'stupid' like have an alternative routing

I hope that can be made a fw modification to add this (or if exist any trick to do it via terminal)

Can be also sufficent that INTERNET MENU can accept an connection addressedto NON WAN Ethernet port (since into WAN port there are an ONT).

Thanks

Attacched actual working backup  configurtion BUT i need to change phisically WAN port with one cable of LTE or one cable of ONT-FTTH.....and is not good :(

Since i don't want buy a 4 port 10Gbit switch to put all port (WAN,LTE,ONT) ... i don't want believe that is not possibile to connect LTE ETH Cable (4g connection) to LAN port (and not WAN) and made working...
