Hi, I’m new when it comes to VLAN's. The issue I’m having is trying to get VLAN traffic to work on access points that are connected to multiple TP-link switches that are connected to a Ubiquiti switch. I found another forum post that has an almost identical issue to mine here, following their solution (of tagging both the AP's and uplink port) I was able to get the AP's connected to the first TP-link switch working.  the next set of AP's however I can’t get working. I’m including a diagram to better illustrate. the switch configuration continues past the 3rd switch but as long as I can get the AP's on the 3rd switch working I can repeat the process for the rest of the switches. any help is appreciated. 

 

I updated the picture to better show my configuration, I have VLAN1 as untagged on all the switches. I have tested with different combinations of tagged ports for VLAN 5 on switch 2 & 3 but have not gotten it yet.

All links between switches, regardless of brands, should have untagged management network, tagged everything else.  If you start having multiple untagged, or a mix of untagged and tagged uplinks all the way to the router, you will see weird things happen.

 

 

For example,. say i have 4 vlans

 

Management vlan1

Office vlan2

Basement vlan3

Lounge vlan4

 

The management vlan is the one that would be untagged, so every port to the access points, and between the switches all the way to the router would be

 

untagged [ management]

tagged [office, basement, lounge)

 

You can have the other vlans untagged on access ports, thats fine, but trunking and links, always tagged.

 

 

Management vlan doesnt have to be the main untagged one, it can be anything, but it has to be consistent

Main: ER8411 x1, SG3428X x1, SG3452 x1, SG2428LP x1, SG3210 x1, SG2218P x1, SG2008P x3, ES208G x1, EAP650 x6 Remote: ER7206 v2 x1, ER605 v2 x3, SG2008P x2, EAP650 x2, ES205G x1 Controller: OC300

  @GRL so the configuration I have for VLAN 1 would server the same function as the management VLAN example you gave, if im understanding correctly.

so all uplinks and downlinks are tagged, does every switch need a taggedd uplink? looking at the example on the how to guide it did not look like it.

  @MR.S I have read through it a few times, still working on trying to fully understand it.

ill look for some more examples.

all vlans should be on tagged links between the switches, all the way up the chain.  Only one vlan (it can be any but it needs to be consistent) should be untagged
