Model: Deco BE25   Deco M9 Plus   Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I’m using a mixed Deco mesh setup with all units connected via Ethernet:

Deco 1 (Main) – BE25

Deco 2 – M5 (Ethernet to Deco 1)

Deco 3 – M9 Plus (Ethernet to Deco 2)

Deco 4 – BE25 (Ethernet to Deco 3)

The issue is:

Deco 4 (BE25) connects to Deco 1 via Wi-Fi instead of using the Ethernet backhaul, which causes Deco 3 (M9 Plus) to route through Deco 4 via Ethernet, resulting in an indirect and Wi-Fi-based path to the main Deco.

When I unplug Deco 4, all other Decos correctly use Ethernet backhaul.

My goal: Ensure all Decos, including Deco 4, stay connected via Ethernet and not Wi-Fi. Can you help me configure or force Ethernet backhaul across the mesh properly?

@David-TP Can you please help resolve this. 4th DECO (BE25) is used by a lot of devices and since it is 2 floors away from 1st DECO(BE25) the signal is very weak and thus the internet speeds are really slow.

  @DoH

Change order of Deco to the following and see if that fixes the issue:

Deco 1 (Main) – BE25

Deco 2 – BE25 (Ethernet to Deco 1)

Deco 3 – M9 Plus (Ethernet to Deco 2)

Deco 4 – M5 (Ethernet to Deco 3)

  @Alexandre.

The main issue is that Deco 1 (BE25) and Deco 4 (BE25) are installed in areas with heavy usage across multiple floors, while Deco 2 (M5) and Deco 3 (M9 Plus) are in smaller areas with fewer users.

We specifically chose the BE25 units to handle the load in larger spaces, and all locations are wired with Ethernet for reliable backhaul. However, Deco 4 continues to connect via Wi-Fi to Deco 1, bypassing the Ethernet wiring and affecting performance.

Can you please advise if there's a way to force Deco 4 to use the existing Ethernet connection as its backhaul, especially since reliable wired connections are already available at all locations?

This setup is important for maintaining performance where it's needed most.

  @DoH

I suggest you try what I proposed, for troubleshooting purposes. If my proposed configuration works, we can discuss next steps. If it does not work either, that may point at issue with Ethernet cable.

Until you try, we would not know.
