Model: RE505X
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I currently have one RE505X that works as a wireless extender for my ISP provided router. Both have EasyMesh turned on and are working fine. I am planning to buy another RE505X and was wondering if EasyMesh will still work by connecting it to my current RE505X via Ethernet Backhaul.

TIA!

Hi@Renmazuo,

Thank you for contacting our community.

Ethernet Backhaul in EasyMesh enables two individual EasyMesh-supported devices to be connected via an Ethernet cable, enhancing the stability and speed of the Mesh network. Several Range extenders already support this feature, such as RE315. Other models are also planned to support this feature.
For more supported models and detailed configuration guides, please refer to EasyMesh Range Extenders Start Supporting Building a EasyMesh Network via Ethernet Backhaul.

So you can see the RE505X is not on the list.

 Hi @Joseph-TP

Thank you for the response.

I guess I'll just go to my 2nd option which uses the RE505X as a WiFi Bridge, connect several Deco Devices to the extender via Ethernet, and create a new mesh network/SSID from the Deco devices.

This will work fine, correct?

Hi@Renmazuo,

Thank you for your reply.

Do you mean connect the main deco to the RE505X's Ethernet port to access the network? Is the topology you want to achieve:

Main router)))(((RE505X)))(((RE505XDeco system.

(Note: — stands for wired connection,)))((( stands for wireless connection )

Theoretically, your topology is feasible, but the network transmission effect may not be ideal. Because the range extender obtains the network through wireless connection, the conversion rate may be lower than that of wired connection. The second RE505X may not obtain an ideal network speed because of two wireless transmissions.

Hi @Joseph-TP ,

Due to the structure of the house, this is the topology that I'm planning:

Main Router ))) ((( RE505X Deco S7 Deco S7

Or, I might remove the RE505X from the topology and do this instead:

Main Router Deco S7 ))) ((( Deco S7  Deco S7

Which one is more optimal?

Hi@Renmazuo,

Thanks for your reply.

If it were me, I would suggest you choose the second topology. But if you don’t have a third Deco unit, you can also try the first topology. After all, it depends on the actual usage environment and situation.
