Hi,

 

I currently have a TP-Link Deco mesh setup with three units — one acting as the main Deco (connected to the router), and the other two functioning as satellite Decos.

 

The router is connected to a network switch, which distributes wired connections to LAN ports across the office.

 

One of the satellite Decos is failing to provide a strong signal in our meeting room. I am planning to buy a brand new single Deco unit and connect it directly to a LAN port in the meeting room (which is wired back to the switch and router).

 

Before I proceed, I’d like to confirm:

 

  • Can I connect this new Deco to the LAN port and have it serve Wi-Fi as part of the same mesh system?

  • Will it automatically join the existing Deco mesh as a satellite, or does it need special setup?

  • If the new Deco is a different (newer) model, will it still integrate smoothly?

May I know, do you want to add a new unit to an existing network and set it as the main Deco? You can set the new unit as a satellite Deco firstly, then change it to be main Deco:How to replace the main Deco with another Deco

 

If you want to create a new network, and looking for a way to add another Deco network, please enter the Deco APP dashboard and click the "+" at the right top corner to create another new network.

 

For Ethernet backhaul, please refer to General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco
