Model: Archer AX72
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

I've changed FTTP ISP from one that will work directly with my AX72 router to one that won't. I naively thought that I could just plug the router from the new ISP (Sky) into the AX72, log in, change a few settings and then carry on as before.

As soon as I tried to connect the Sky router, the AX72 became unresponsive whether connected to the Sky router or not. The reset button does not work and I can't connect either wirelessly or using ethernet. The lights alternate between the power button flashing on and off, followed by all buttons flashing on and off. I have an RE705X range extender that is still working and allowing me to log in; turning it off makes no difference.

TP-Link help told me the device is defective, then referred me to their replacement team. They then refused to replace it, because aparently 2 years and 2 months is a reasonble lifespan for a £100 router.

Can anyone assist? It seems odd that a defect would make itselff known at the exact point that I tried to change the input.

And to anyone considering TP-Link, my previous Netgear router was still going strong when I upgraded it after 8 years, and had regular firmware updates.

Hi,

It may sound silly, but can you please verify that you've connected the Archer AX72's to its original power adapter? (should be rated 12 V ⎓ 2.5 A)

Nowadays many devices use cables with these 5.5 mm barrel connectors and it has happened to other people before that they mixed up these cables and ended up connecting the wrong power adapter to the wrong device. Using a wrong (or partly defective) power adapter can result in the LED flashing signature you are seeing.

@woozle Not a silly question, you're bl**dy right! It looks as though the guy who installed the fibre modem got the power adapters mixed up. Thank you so much for your help!
