Model: Archer BE800
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.3 Build 20250314 rel.45415(4555)

Hello,

I have main connectivity issue via PPPoE and want it to set up backup connectivity via 5G modem(cant bridge mode but even if he could, it doesnt matter). What I understand BE800 is overpriced router which cant support backup connectivity whatsoever. Only possible way is through static routing. But this router doesnt allow to configure default route(The address cannot be 0.0.0.0.). You have to remask 0.0.0.0/0 for smaller prefixes(yes 8 unnecessary routes without 0.0.0.0/8).

This solution isnt automatic, because you are using smaller prefixes and you cant configure same routes via WAN and hope this router has AD better via WAN port. You have too switch on/off status for every route.

This is incredibly stupid or did I miss something?

I think there should be few ways how to enable some backup solutions.

1. IPTV/VLAN - when mode is custom, you should use bridge for 2.5 Gbps LAN ports

2. In internet configuration there should be posible way to configure something like backup default gateway via LAN IP address. Its only about to allow other default route with worse AD metric.

3. Allow to set prefix 0.0.0.0/0 witch worse AD metric in static routing settings.

Implementation cant be too difficult.

Thanks

Ondrej

You didn't miss anything - BE800 just doesn't have any backup connectivity implemented - here's its user guide.

The backup connection feature is implemented only in their 3G/4G modem routers and the business grade routers.

@terziyski This is so horrible... I need to choose a better vendor next time. In my case I have simple solution to set up NAS with IP SLA/NCSI as default GW in my network but not everyone has the same options and asynchronous routing may bother some people...
