Hello mates,

I just bought a new router recently (TL-841WR841HP) and the signal was quite good to begin with. I'm getting 5Mbps of bandwidth from my ISP and what I normally do is playing online game called Dota2. The line is being shared with 3 people including myself. Sometimes either one of them will be using p2p software for streaming purposes. What I did is basically do an IP reservation for my PC, and then allocate huge bandwidth for myself whenever I'm playing the game. Here's basically the setting and what I get when pinging dota2 server(nearest to my location), assuming another is using p2p software.I'm using wireless connection by the way.

Engress: 1024kbps
Igress: 4096kbps

(Rules being applied only when I'm starting to play the game)

Rules 1: 192.168.0.100 (which is me)
Egress: 512 (min) 1024 (max)
Ingress: 2048 (min) 4096 (max)

Rules 2: 192.168.0.101-199 (other devices)
Egress: 128 (min) 256 (max)
Ingress: 256 (min) 512 (max)

Ping to dota2 server result:
15ms,20ms, 15ms, 1028ms, 15ms, 15ms, 20ms, 498ms, 15ms, 56ms, 15ms,67ms, 998ms.. and the cycle continues..

What I realized is that the hiccup is consistent and only happen when other is using p2p software for streaming. So i rule out my network card problem.
I starting to doubt the capability of my router in term of controlling bandwidth and what's more interesting is I tried to set the egress and ingress to 0 and 0 yet my iPad (which is being controlled by rule number 2), still can access the net and load videos.

Any experience lads who can share out some experience or maybe, overcome this issue? I tried to find solution over the web but I couldn't find any. Should I flash my router despite its still new? Thanks in advances!

Regards,
annoyed user

Hi Vivian,

Tried to upgrade the latest firmware but it don't compatible with my ISP. FYI I'm using Unifi (MY largest ISP). No choice but have to downgrade to earlier firmware :(
I selected PPPoE connection type, entered username and password. No online time under the main status, nor packets or bytes received..

And also when browsing for the firmware, is there any difference between v1 and v1.20? Cause the sticker underneath my router stated v1.0 but the product image is v1.20. (according to tp-link website) Will there be any harm if i insist to upgrade v1.20 instead of v1.0 firmware? Kindly advise :D

There is a beta firmware to solve bandwidth control issue and it also works with Unifi.
You have to ask for it from TP-LINK support team.

Tried the beta one (which have beta words all over the background). Everything seems fine initially but having problem accessing general net. Also tried to contact unifi support but with no avail.

Hi guys,

I just received a reply from local tp-link customer support on the new beta firmware in regards to this problem.

Glad i'm not the only one encountering this problem. Here's the link to these thread which i felt is worth reading.

http://forum.tp-link.com/search.php?searchid=3035927

Don't hesitate to pm me if you want the firmware immediately without having to wait for a couple of days for the support to reply. Can't wait to test it out. Thanks and have a nice day ahead.

P/s: Thanks vivian

Hi Newin,

The firmware only work for (UN) not (MY) unfortunately. Currently still dealing with the support to get the latest firmware that works with Unifi.

Thanks

I was planning to buy this router and now this issue really disappoints me. Is there any attempts being made from TPL tech team to resolve this issue yet?
