Model: TL-WA1801
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.1 Build 20230925 Rel. 60626(4555)

Just bought a TL-WA1801 to replace my previous TL-WA801N  acting in client mode, to allow my PC which only has ethernet to connect to my wifi network.

The problem is it just keeps disconnecting then reconnecting. I don't think its the wifi part as signal strength is good, plus in the system logs I keep seeing this:

2025-08-14 16:29:27 Led Controller INFO [738] Start to run LAN_ON

2025-08-14 16:29:18 Led Controller INFO [738] Start to run LAN_OFF

Suggesting to me the problem lies in the LAN/Ethernet cable part.

I've tried different cables (inc the one that I was using previously with the older WA801N), tried moving it around.  It appears to be on the latest firmware. Yes I've cycled the power.

If I plug my older one back in positioned in same space using same cable into the same ethernet port on my motherboard, that one works fine.

Does this sound like a defective unit?

Your issue seems like an ethernet port or ethernet cable problem. If you have tried different good quality cables, then it's most probably the former.

Hello@Arksun76 ,

Welcome to our community.

If you are experiencing an unstable internet connection on your TP-Link wifi access point, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
1.Test the internet connection by connecting your client devices directly to the main router. This will help determine if the issue is specific to the access point or if it's a problem with the router itself.
2. Try using different port, or cable to connect the access point and the main router.
3. Make sure the firmware of the access point is in the latest one. For how to update the firmware of the access point, please check this instruction: How to Upgrade TP-Link Wireless 11AC Access Point.

Best Regards.

  @Joseph-TP

I know you're trying to help but it really helps to read the post you're replying to Joseph :)

1) I'm using this in client mode. My router and internet connection are absolutely fine

2) Tried different cables and different port on the PC.  (both cables and ports work absolutely fine with my older generation TP Link Access point)

3) As already stated, firmware is fully up to date according to the check for updates function in the TP Link settings.

I think I'm just going to have to return it. Maybe there's some bad soldering on the LAN port inside this unit......

  @Arksun76 ,

Thanks for your detailed reply.

It is recommended that you replace the access point with a new one.
