Hello,

I currently own an Archer BE550, which works very well for my home network. However, I’ve recently noticed that it does not support Multi-WAN / WAN Failover.

What I would like to achieve is the following setup:

  • Primary WAN: Fiber optic connection from my ISP.

  • Secondary WAN (Backup): 5G router connected via Ethernet (using a data SIM card).

  • The router should automatically switch to the 5G backup WAN if the fiber goes down, and switch back when the fiber is restored.

My requirements:

  1. Similar or better performance/features compared to the Archer BE550 (high throughput, strong Wi-Fi performance, preferably Wi-Fi 7).

  2. Dual WAN / WAN Failover support.

  3. Ability to use the router as the main gateway while keeping my existing devices (NAS, printer, smart home IoT, etc.) connected seamlessly.

Could you please recommend which TP-Link model (Archer, Omada, or other series) would best fit these needs?

Thank you in advance!

Hello@SantiMarina ,

Welcome to our community.

Currently, there are no home routers that support Multi-WAN/WAN failover.
However, based on your needs, the Deco BE65-5G in the Deco series might meet your needs.

In WiFi router mode, if the device is disconnected from the network, you can use the SIM card as a backup so that it will not be disconnected from the network.

You could enable 4G/5G back up mode via Deco app on More->Advanced> 4G/5G back up. After enabling, you will be prompted to select a fixed WAN port. You need to set the interface connecting the Modem to the WAN port. Please note that if the LAN-side device is connected to this fixed WAN port, the LAN-side device will get NO Internet from the fix WAN port.

For more details, please refer to How to set up 3G/4G or 4G/5G Backup on Deco router.
