Model: Archer AXE5400
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.5 Build 20241118 rel.64284(4A50)

Hi guys, I need your help.

I have my home server as a VPN Server (Windows Server 2019, L2TP/IPsec) in Japan. It works well. I can connect to it via many devices (Windows, Mac, and iPhone) from abroad.

I bought an AXE5400 and it is really great because it provides VPN Client function. I don't need to turn the VPN on any more.

So I set up "VPN Client" with the proven information. But "Connecting" lasts forever.

I tried another type of VPN Client, OpenVPN. It worked well.

I was going to set up port forwarding, because the router log on the home server side didn't reject/drop any packets. I suspect the settings on the Archer side.

However, I can't specify the Archer's own IP address.

I'm at loss.

At worst, I can give up on connecting to my home server. But I'm not satisfied with the throughput of the OpenVPN service.

Please give me hints and advice.

Thank you in advance.

Hello @ash_tokyo ,

Thanks for contacting our community.

If you want to set the VPN client, please refer to Archer AXE5400(USW)_V1.6_User Guide(from page 83).

However, at present, the speed of OpenVPN client is higher than L2TP/IPsec client. My suggestion is that you keep the current settings.

@Joseph-TP Thank you for your comment. Of course, I’ve already followed what’s written in the user guide, but it still isn’t working.

  @ash_tokyo ,

If so, it is recommended that you continue to use OpenVPN Client.
