unfortunately this looks like a hard brick. on the C8 v1 the normal signs of life would be power LED + LAN activity when you connect a cable, and the reset button should always give some response. if only the USB LED briefly flashes and then nothing else happens, it means the firmware (or even the bootloader) is corrupted first thing you can try is the recovery method: set up a PC with static IP (for example 192.168.0.66), use TFTP to serve the correct C8 v1 firmware file (rename it to ArcherC8v1_tp_recovery.bin), then power on the router while holding reset/WPS. in some cases it will pull the firmware automatically and recover. if that doesn’t work, the only option left is opening the unit and using a serial console or JTAG to reflash the firmware, which requires hardware tools. so short answer: it’s not just that you “need an update,” the unit is bricked. try the TFTP recovery if you want, otherwise it’s repair via serial or replacing the router
