Model: RE220
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.0.23

Hi there!

I bought this range extender a couple of months ago, and it was working fine. But yesterday I got my ISP router changed, and since then, it doesn't work anymore. I've tried resetting it from the app, restoring to defaults, resetting from the button, and trying to connect it with a cable—nothing. It does the normal procedure and connects to my router network, but when I reach the steps where I have to connect to the new extended WiFi, it just won't show the new WiFi extended signal. It also can't hold the name of the new extended signal and just keeps dropping, making it impossible to connect. I've already tried another brand's extender, and it works with the router—both the old and the new one—but this RE220 just stopped doing so.

Any help would be appreciated. I bought it from Amazon back in April.

Hi,

This sound almost like as if the RE220 is turning into a Mesh extender once you have set it up.

In a Mesh network the names of the extended networks become identical to the ones of the router, potentially making the user think the extender's networks have "disappeared".

Newer ISP-provided router models often do support "EasyMesh" nowadays, even if this feature might not be mentioned in big letters on the box.

If that was the case and you don't want the RE220 to build a Mesh network together with the ISP router, then you need to switch the "EasyMesh" or "Mesh" feature off before you perform the procedure to connect the RE220 to the router.

@woozle hi! Thank you for the input, but that's Definitely not the issue. My current router doesnt support mesh, also the Tether app says it so, and I can't enebale nor disable mesh mode. It's set to work as an extender but it can't emit nor modify extended network name. Although it says it's connected, but you can't connect to it.

Did you check with a Wi-Fi Scanner/Analyzer program or app that the RE220 is indeed not emitting Wi-Fi networks with the same names as the router? (operating systems themselves usually show multiple networks with the same name as one network only)

By the way. For some devices the Tether app does not show the Mesh feature properly. For example, if the Tether app shows your RE220 as "OneMesh" (like picture below from a RE305), then you are getting wrong information shown, because with firmware version 1.0.23 the RE220 should have "EasyMesh". If this was the case, then you would need to use the RE220's web management interface (i.e. admin webpage) to configure the extender.

@CM17X Mate, i think you're totally right. My roter says it doens't support Mesh, at least that's what the Tether app says, but once i connect the RE220, my phone jumps to it and it says the wifi prvider is TPlink, therefore it's connectect to it and the wifi name is the same. And yes, it does provide internet. How do i fix it? How can i access throught the web version?

Edited: Ive tried following instructions here but it sys i'm not connected to a TPLINK router: http://tplinkwifi.net/

The correct link for TP-Link's range extenders is http://tplinkrepeater.net/ .

However, sometimes this also doesn't work, due to web browsers using secure DNS. If the above link does not work, then you would either need to find the RE220's currect IP address or start from scratch by resetting the RE220 and then connecting to the "TP-Link_Extender" Wi-Fi. After a reset the address for the web interface will be 192.168.0.254

@woozle Thank you so much for your help! It seems like it's in fact working, but, i'm confused. I can see "Easymesh" is on, but at the same time, it says the device is not connected to any Easymesh "No conectado a ninguna red EasyMesh"

If it's not connected to an EasyMesh network, then you should be able to edit the settings of the "Extended Network" (e.g. the network names) in the "Wireless" menu.

In case those settings are blocked (shown in a sort of grey color), then try if it makes a difference when you turn the "EasyMesh" switch to the off position.

@woozle Tank you, again! It's fixed now. It was driving me crazy. For some reason the Teather APP didn't help at all in this case.

@woozle This is so frustrating. It keeps ressetings the devicces extended networks anytime i disconnect it and connect it back again. I have it set to turn it of at a time frame to save power and increase life span, but, althpugh i can detect the clients connect to it, the extended networks are gone! EasyMesh is disabled, and the same happens when it's enabled. It's actually a MESHHH!

This must be a bug in the RE220's firmware then.

By the way, do you mind posting the model name of the ISP router you've got? It's usually printed on a label attached to the router's bottom or backside.
