Hi,

i'm using TP-link Archer VR 1600v 2.0 modem router on nbn network.
i live in a 2 storey house and the upstair reception is not good.

Currently i'm using Netgear Ac1200 Ex6110 extender, the reception is not consistent.

i bought Mesh Wifi extender AC2600 and hoping it will help.
i haven't opened it yet, as I have just found that it's a mesh wifi extender and my modem is not a mesh and only ac1600. Unsure it's compatible or not. Also whether it help if my modem is only ac1600.
do you have any options? If it's not a good one, what extender you will recommend? So i can return and get a new one.

thanks

Hi,

Mesh is just an additional feature.

The RE650 can still work as a regular "Works with any Wi-Fi router" extender. (it should actually state these words right on the box)

The RE650 being "AC2600" while the VR1600v is only "AC1600" doesn't matter. It only means you spent more money than necessary.

However, the main concern of your post is difficult to answer.
It's impossible to predict with certainty whether the RE650 will solve your reception problems or not. The "AC****" numbers don't tell anything about the reception performance. The external antennas of the RE650 should give it an advantage over the Netgear EX6110, but whether that will be enough in your case is anyone's guess.
