Model: Archer AX73
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.2

So I recently had to reset my Archer AX73 to factory settings. I previously had both the main and guest networks split as 5ghz and the 2.4ghz networks. Am currently running the latest firmware as of this writing.

The main network is working fine. I'm going with SmartConnect this time around and everything seems okay. However, the guest networks refuse to connect any device. FWIW, it's literally all Apple devices except for the PS5. All of these sit on the main network with no issues and are getting max speed.

Right now, I'm trying to set up just the 5Ghz guest network. In the TP Link www page, I've set password for WPA2/WPA3. Which, for whatever reason, I can't do in the Tether app. The only options are Encrypted or None.

I keep getting an error that says "Need to use a WPA2/3 password to connect", despite the fact that's literally what I'm typing in. The PS5 throws a version of this error as well.

I've tried running both with and without Allow Local Access to no avail. IIRC, I think I had that turned off previously when the guest networks were working. I also have no ability in either www or Tether to limit what Wi-fi flavors (b/g/n, ax, etc.) the guest network will recognize.

I did not save any backup settings so that's not an option.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on? TIA for any help.

Hey, Bogle, thanks for the reply. Full FW is 1.1.2 Build 20250210 rel.53421.  I keep checking and it keeps saying it's the latest.

I'd quibble with what devices can use the 5ghz band. The PS5 and the Apple TV absolutely can and do use the 5G band. In fact, the PS5 allows to scan for 5Ghz bands only. Both items are pulling the full 300 mpbs down that I'm paying for from my ISP.

After I wrote my initial post, it turned out the PS5 was refusing to connect to the Smart Connect unified network. I split the bands but the PS5 still sat down in the dirt and "Not gonna connect to 5Ghz". I had to forget the 5Ghz band, set it up manually, and used Google's custom DNS number (8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4) to get the PS5 on the wifi again. It's been holding steady for a few days now. I really think there's an issue with the way Sony is implementing wifi.

As for the guest networks: no wifi device in the house, regardless of manufacturer, will connect to them. Toggling "use local network" on and off isn't helping either. I'm really irritated with this because the guest networks were fully working before I reset the router to factory. I was using them for the PS5 and the few IoT devices I have laying around the house.

I could try resetting the router and trying again, but I really don't have the energy at this point. Although I'm wondering if a downgrade of the FW might help.

Thanks again for your reply.

This is why I hate home networking.

So I change the password on the guest network, and now everything is connecting. At least the two Apple devices and the PS5 I tried are, at any rate. The PS5 is still clocking in at a respectable 250+ mbps down. I'm paying for 300, so I'm cool with that.

I'm going to risk it and see what happens when I change the guest network name back to the one I had before I reset the browser.

Because if something's working, keep fiddling with it until it breaks, LOL.

Which exact FW are you using?

Consoles generally don't use the 5ghz band so you're stuck with using the 2.4ghz band for them, it's the same with most printers and tv's, they also won't allow WPA3 hence why you have to select the mixed 2-3 option but that doesn't always work either, the way I got round it was to configure as WPA2 then re-enable the 2-3 mode, WPA3 won't work with this trick but you can enable WPA2/3 after and it should work, no promises though.

Guest network doesn't allow for B.G.AX etc altering, it takes it's lead from the main channels and obeys what they're configured as.

Always best to use a webpage to config with, Tether is ok for minor alterations plus it's easier to hit the correct configs on a big screen.
