Model: Deco BE65 Pro
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0

Today I received my DECO Mesh with 3 device, which I will be returning as it is impossible to switch off DHCP while retaining  MESH and routing capabilities. I already have very cabable DHCP and DDNS services in my network and I dont want to hand this off you the simplistic implementation in the DECO.

I was shocked to find out that already in 2020 there was a feature request  to allow disabling DHCP and the response was to 'look into it'

https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/184752 which TP-LINK still has not honored. This makes the DECO useless in my application and TP-Link mediocre in listening to its customers.

Pretty disappointed.

Paul,

Is there any reason you don't want to run your deco's in AP mode? You said you already have very cabable DHCP and DDNS services in your network you should be able to keep those and let them handle DCHP and DDNS while the decos run in AP mode. Deco's in AP mode still provide mesh.

Here is a list of items that work in router mode vs AP mode so you will know what options you will lose out on from the decos by running them in AP mode

Need help with the Deco app, setup, Ethernet backhaul, network switch or rolling back firmware? Router or AP mode? https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/699816?page=1

Very simple: I need the router capabilities! In AP mode there is no NATting and I would need an additional router between the AP's and my ISP connection to provide the NAT.
I just want all the features of the Router but just NOT its DHCP and DNS. Your product is in its current setting only suitable for very simple networks. You had the opportunity to make it a mature product for the more complex environment IF YOU HAD LISTENED TO CUSTOMER FEEDBACK 5 YEARS AGO!

I don't work for tp-link I just help them out while they are working on ways to make thing better. But I agree i found a bunch of post from people requesting the same thing you are and to be 100% honest not sure why after 5 years that haven't added it yet.

What do you have running that is handling your DCHP and DDNS?

Apologies: this is my 1st and last TP-Link product. To me DHCP is crucial: no DHCP no network, so I run isc-dhcp server on a ubuntu docker instance and on a raspberry pi in fail-over mode. They feed their respective Samba domain server's DNS, which als run in fail-over mode. A pretty solid setup, which I refuse to give up in favor of the dumbed down counter parts in the DECO.

As said: need the DECO to be a solid router, nothing else. For that add-on features like DHCP and DNS should be optional, which is the case in any router I have laid my hands on. The fact that TP-link disagrees means they should not be in the networking business.
