Disjointed realization of Smart Connect on Archer GE800
Disjointed realization of Smart Connect on Archer GE800
Hi,
Why is Smart Connect applicable only to 2.4 & 5 GHz? Why does setting up Smart Connect require me to set up separately 6GHz network with its password and combined 2.4 & 5 GHz network while your description of the functionality states that it combines ALL bands under the same name?
I am struggling to use Wi-Fi 6E 6GHz band on iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad Pro 11" M4 and Mac Studio M4. All three on the latest software versions with Archer GE800 on the latest firmware fail to detect a 6GHz band.
Apple suggested using one network name for all 3 three bands 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz but you have a weird disjointed realization of Smart Connect with the combined name only applicable to 2.4/5 GHz bands and 6 GHz existing separately and since the latter is not visible I cannot add it to the mix.
The bottom line: I don't know who to blame but I can't use Wi-Fi 6E 6GHz on three separate modern supporting devices in the regime of 3 separate network names and in the regime Smart Connect (2.4 & 5 GHz) + 6 GHz.

Hi,
i tried that option many times but it works only part of the time. Once I turn OFF Location Services the 6 GHz band takes several hours to appear in the list of Wi-Fi networks. Also it doesn't stay visible and disappears again after some time. It's sporadically visible.
only mac studio seems to see 6 GHz all the time. Somehow Apple treats Macs differently than iPhones and iPads.
i have enabled MLO but now I don't see what frequency is being used. It just shows MLO in Tether.
do you think manually upgrading to European firmware can help?

Hi,
Note that support of the 6 GHz band is very country-specific. That it works for someone residing in country A does not necessarily mean is also works for someone in country B.
If you live in Northern America or an EU country, then it should certainly work, because these regions have opened up the 6 GHz band for use a long time ago.
However, if you happen to live in a country that has allowed the use of the 6 GHz band more recently, then the device manufacturers (Apple, etc.) might not have updated the databases within their devices accordingly. Commonly it can take 6 to 12 months for manufacturers to enable support for 6 GHz after a country has implemented the law that allows to use it.

Hi,
it certainly looks like it. But note that I spent a month with Apple denior advisor going back and forth with Apple engineers, shooting videos for them and showing abnormal behavior of my iPhone/iPad with respect to Wi-Fi 6E 6 GHz. Although my videos show 6 GHz band disappear at once after I turn ON Lication Services for Networking, Apple insisted there are no regional restrictions or blocks on my country and it is "expected behavior". They only recommended using one network name for 2.4, 5 & 6 GHz bands ecen though Apple devices don't show the frequency ot connected Wi-Fi. As of today, it's more than 3 months since Wi-Fi 6E has been adopted in my country. Very few people have Wi-Fi 6E routers and detect problems.
