Hi,

I am using the TP-Link RE700X in AP mode, and I am experiencing significantly lower throughput than expected. Below are my test conditions and configuration details.

Wired Connection Tests:

  1. 1 Gbps cable connection from RE700X to the router

  2. The AP’s Ethernet performance was tested using a 1 Gbps laptop → around 920 Mbps, so the wired backhaul is confirmed OK.

Wi-Fi Test Conditions:

  1. No neighboring Wi-Fi networks (clean RF environment, clean channel)

  2. MU-MIMO capable test device

  3. Signal strength: -22 dBm measured at the test client

  4. Both AP and client report ~1820 Mbps TX rate

AP Configuration:

  • TWT: Enabled

  • OFDMA / MU-MIMO: Enabled

  • Security: WPA2/WPA3-Personal

  • Mode: 802.11 b/g/n/ax mixed

  • Channel width: 160 MHz

  • Channel: 36

  • No EasyMesh / OneMesh features enabled

  • NO band steering

  • NO power saving

  • Highest AP power

Issue:
With the exact same test setup, another AP delivers 850–950 Mbps easily.
But with the RE700X, the maximum real download throughput is only 590–620 Mbps. Sure in 5GHZ band AX (WIFI6) mode.

I’m very happy with TP-Link products in general (stable connection, no issues), but I can’t figure out why the RE700X is performing significantly slower even though the TX rate is high and the environment is ideal.

Could you please advise what may be causing the speed limitation?

Thanks.
