Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: v1.2.1 Build 20250729 rel. 73566

Hi,

I recently purchased two Archer AX17 routers, but I am experiencing significant stability issues. The routers are frequently disconnecting devices that are connected via Ethernet cable.

Network Configuration:

  • Internet Source: Fixed wireless internet (Radio).

  • WAN Settings (Main Router): IP assigned automatically by ISP (192.168.1.57, Gateway: 192.168.1.1, Mask: 255.255.255.0).

  • LAN Settings: Router IP: 192.168.0.1. DHCP enabled (Range: 192.168.0.10 – 192.168.0.99).

  • Static IPs: I have Hikvision cameras assigned static IPs outside the DHCP range (192.168.0.100 – 120).

The Problems:

  1. Ethernet Backhaul Issue: I have the first router set as the main unit and the second as a satellite. The satellite is connected via cable from its WAN port to the LAN port of the main router. Despite the wired connection, the main router detects the satellite via Wi-Fi only. Switching between WAN and LAN ports on the satellite unit does not change anything; it stubbornly remains on a Wi-Fi connection.

  2. Wired Device Disconnections: My Hikvision cameras, which are all hardwired, are constantly dropping their connection. When checking the playback in the camera app, there are frequent gaps (white spots) where nothing was recorded.

  3. Client List Errors: In the Tether app, the number of connected clients fluctuates constantly. For example, it might show only 9 clients when I have 15 cameras alone. Interestingly, the "Online Clients" list sometimes shows wired cameras under the 5GHz Wi-Fi category. In the "Offline" list, there is always at least one (often several) wired camera showing as disconnected.

Troubleshooting performed:

  • Factory reset of both devices.

  • Re-installed the latest firmware (v1.2.1 Build 20250729 rel. 73566), even though it was already up to date.

These problems have occurred since day one. My previous, much cheaper Tenda router handled this exact setup without any issues.

Summary of issues:

  • Frequent disconnection of wired devices.

  • Satellite router refuses to use Ethernet Backhaul and stays on Wi-Fi.

Please advise on a solution.

Hi @KumaPL ,

Welcome to our community~!

1. Please click Wired Backhaul* of TP-Link EasyMesh Devices for Home to learn about which models support EasyMesh Ethernet Backhaul in your region.

As far as I know, the Archer AX17 likely does not yet support EasyMesh wired backhaul.

2. For unstable connectivity, please refer to suggestions of TroubleshootingThe internet connection is unstable when connected to the EasyMesh Network

3. Please update the Tether App to latest version. If the connection count for clients is displayed on the web interface, will the same display anomaly occur?

If you need a quick reply, you can also contact local support for further help and send the troubleshooting results to support.
